Legalize To-go cocktails in Oregon

During this pandemic, there have been a myriad of new rules and limits placed on small businesses, specifically bars and restaurants, most of which had little to no success in receiving any aid from the federal government. The hospitality industry is a massive part of our identity as a city in Portland and in Oregon as a whole. As bartenders, bar managers, servers, line cooks, bar backs, dishwashers, and bar owners we demand that State Legislatures give our industry every option available to support itself as this pandemic continues to challenge our country, and we demand that to-go cocktails be legalized to show a commitment to supporting our industry.

Why is this important?

The guidelines for operating during this pandemic while meant to keep us safe have made it even more challenging to operate. Even more troubling is the fact that a great many bars and restaurants simply will not be able to reopen during phase 1 or even phase 2 due to the size of many of these locations. Legalizing to go cocktails will give these business owners and hospitality workers the opportunity to continue supporting themselves from a business and personal stand point. It will assist in unburdening an already overstressed unemployment system and ensure that these hospitality professionals will be able to survive as we continue to learn how to manage our lives during COVID 19.

Friends, We are almost at 3,000 Signatures! Please keep sharing and please keep reaching out to your local legislatures, we need to get this discussed in the next special session coming up in early September. If you aren't sure who to reach out to simply go to https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/FindYourLegislator/leg-districts.html where you can search by your address to find who represents your district.

Friends we cracked 2,500 signatures! Thank you for all of the support! We have a couple of important updates to share with you. First, we have learned that the OLCC and Governor Brown are on our side in this, we need to convince the state legislature that this is something helpful and necessary. Please reach out to your state representatives, send them an email and let them know you support this petition! Second, we need the support of folks outside of the Portland metro area, please be sure to share it with folks in other parts of the state as well. Thank you so much!

Ok friends we have cracked the 2,000 mark! Great work! But we need to keep this going, please continue to share this with everyone you can, any support helps. The next step is to contact our state representatives, senator, and governor to let them know this is something we want. Especially if we want to see it worked on in the next special session, feel free to message me if you’re not sure who to contact or what to say. Thank you, each and everyone of you. This is how we can make some changes that could help save our industry.

We made it to 1000 signatures! Great job everyone, please keep sharing. If you’ve signed it and you want others to do the same consider sending the link to your staff. This benefits all levels of PDX hospitality including BOH, suppliers and distributers.

You may notice the image at the top has changed. Some similar petitions have received push back, specifically from folks concerned about irresponsible consumption and drinking while driving. I decided that an image of closed, sealed containers may be more appropriate.

Thanks for your support!
