Marco Rubio: citizenship should take years not decades
Ambiguous enforcement triggers and lengthy delays for citizenship are non-starters for our community. Please stand with us for a direct, timely pathway to citizenship in any immigration reform bill.
Why is this important?
Senator Marco Rubio has become the most vocal Republican on immigration reform. But he needs to know that relegating some immigrants to a de facto second-class status for life isn’t good for immigrants or America.
He has stated publicly that he supports a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the US – but the process he’s designing could take decades, meaning that some people will be unable to become citizens in their lifetimes.
This is not acceptable. We know the citizenship process must be straightforward and real; it should take a matter of years -- not decades.
