Parents choice to opt out of Ryan Walters' propaganda video

Dear Dr. Johnson,

We, the undersigned parents, guardians, and community members of Tulsa Public Schools, express our deep concern regarding the recent directive from State Superintendent Ryan Walters, mandating the viewing of a video from his Department of Religious Freedom and Patriotism for all students.

We strongly urge you to reject this mandate. This directive appears to serve a personal political agenda rather than the educational interests of our children. It undermines the inclusive environment of public schools by promoting content that may not reflect the beliefs or values of all families. Public schools are a place for learning, growth, and acceptance for students of all backgrounds—not for religious or political indoctrination.

Additionally, we question whether this mandate has any legal standing under Oklahoma law. The superintendent's insistence on using our children's schools for publicity stunts is a distraction from addressing critical issues that genuinely improve educational outcomes.

If the district decides to comply with this mandate, we request an opt-out option for students whose families find the video inappropriate or misaligned with their values. Families must be notified in advance and given clear instructions on how to opt their children out.

We appreciate your commitment to fostering an equitable and supportive learning environment. We trust that you will carefully consider the voices of the families and students you serve and prioritize their educational well-being.

Why is this important?

Fellow Tulsa Public Schools Parents and Guardians,
We need your support to ensure that our classrooms remain places of learning, inclusivity, and growth—not platforms for political agendas. We have created a petition urging Tulsa Public Schools leaders to reject this mandate. By signing, you can join us in demanding that political rhetoric stays out of our classrooms. Let’s ensure our children’s education remains focused on their growth and future, not the ambitions of elected officials.
