Petition to Remove ICE Job Posting from OrangeCore

We, the undersigned members of the Syracuse University community, urge the College of Law and the Office of Career Services to immediately remove the job posting for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of the Principal Legal Advisor.

ICE has a documented history of violating constitutional rights, statutory protections, and basic principles of human dignity. Promoting this agency as a legitimate site for credit or employment fundamentally contradicts the College of Law’s mission to uphold justice, equity, and the rule of law.

This endorsement not only undermines the integrity of our legal education but also stands in stark hypocrisy to the University’s acknowledgment of its presence on Indigenous Onondaga Nation land. Supporting an agency that criminalizes and dehumanizes people on stolen land is morally inexcusable.

We call on the administration to remove the posting, review the vetting process for future opportunities, and issue a statement recognizing the harm caused by this decision. Syracuse University deserves a law school that practices the values it teaches—justice, integrity, and respect for all.

Signed,

Why is this important?

SUCOL cannot honestly teach its students about the due process of law and the rights afforded to every person who comes into this country, and offer this job as an appropriate legal education.
