PFW Winter-Break Cost

This campaign has ended.

We want the price to stay in our dorms over winter break to be significantly reduced.  Or reverted back to no cost like previous school years.

Why is this important?

Joining the campaign for change regarding student housing policies is crucial for several reasons, and it's important for others to understand and support this cause.

Firstly, the current policy does not accommodate students who need to remain in Fort Wayne to keep their jobs. Many students rely on local employment to support themselves financially, and being forced to leave during breaks disrupts their ability to maintain these jobs. This can lead to financial instability and stress, which negatively impacts their academic performance and overall well-being.

Secondly, the issue of transparency is significant. The housing contract did not originally specify these restrictions, nor were students informed at the beginning of the year. This lack of communication is unfair and leaves students unprepared to make alternative arrangements. When students signed their housing contracts, they did so with the expectation that they would have continuous access to their accommodations. Changing the terms mid-year undermines trust and creates unnecessary complications.

Furthermore, students have already paid for the months that the break falls upon. Charging extra fees for staying during this period is not only unjust but also places a financial burden on students. Many students are already on tight budgets, and additional costs can make it difficult for them to afford basic necessities like food and transportation. This financial strain can lead to increased stress and anxiety, further affecting their academic success and mental health.

By joining this campaign, individuals can help ensure that student voices are heard and that policies are fair and transparent. Advocating for a change in housing policies will promote a more supportive and stable environment for all students, allowing them to focus on their studies and personal growth without the added worry of housing insecurity.

In summary, supporting this campaign is about standing up for fairness, transparency, and the well-being of the student body. It's about ensuring that students can maintain their jobs, stay informed about housing policies, and avoid unnecessary financial burdens. Together, we can work towards creating a more equitable and supportive environment for all students.
