Protect Farmworker Wages and Fund Hazard Pay

We call on you to support migrant and guest workers, and work to ensure that they are paid hazard pay during the pandemic. Our food security depends on their grueling work - which already falls outside of normal labor law, and allows them to be paid pennies. Their work and health is critical.

The current effort by the White House Chief of Staff to cut pay for guest workers during this crisis would be a tremendous blow to communities already in dire need of support.

Farmworkers are working unbelievably hard (and at great risk) so that so many of us can stay safely inside our homes while they risk their lives to grow and harvest food for us.To speak of cutting their pay at this time is beyond belief. Not only would it harm these people's families, it would harm all Americans, by jeopardizing the food systems in our country which are already under tremendous strain, and undermining our national food security.

According to one of the documentary film makers of Food Chains, "Farmworkers earn on average between $10,000 and $12,000 a year (far below the poverty line) making it nearly impossible to develop savings, much less raise a family. Coupled with exploitative conditions in the field, farm work ranks amongst the most dangerous and poorly paid jobs in America."

Please act and speak boldly to stand by these families who are courageously standing by all of us!

Please OPPOSE any legislation to cut guest worker pay, please provide federal relief to farmworker families, and please enact legislation to pay hazard pay to the people risking their lives to feed us: guest workers.
