Re-purpose empty buildings to affordable housing!!

Dear Rep Ryan, There are a growing number of NY residents, in the lower Hudson Valley, who can no longer afford to live here. These are people who have been here for generations. Where are they supposed to go ?? Moving out of state is not their choice or affordable either. Seniors, lower income families and veterans are at risk of becoming homeless due to outrageous rent prices and the cost of food, car repairs, health care, etc. We NEED affordable family housing and senior housing added.
My hope is that with so many empty buildings sitting and crumbling, why can’t they be repurposed for housing ?? Please, with all the new housing being built in this area, can’t someone think of using these many empty structures for housing!?!??
Thank you for considering this request, it is sorely needed here.

Why is this important?

I know there are many residents in this area who love it here, have strong roots here and do not wish to be homeless or forced to try and move somewhere else. In the local Orange County, Sullivan County area, housing is going up if you have $500,000 or more to live a good life. Many, many residents are unable to afford this or the exorbitant rents of $2000 + per month plus separate utilities, security and 2 months rent. Please join me in using the idea of building repurposing. Taking empty buildings and using them for housing our longtime residents who need it. Families who can no longer afford local housing, are many!! Please help by asking our Rep, named above, for some assistance. Moving away is not the answer, it uproots families from their relatives, children from their schools and older children from their senior parents in a time of need. Please read this over and give it serious thought. Thank you!!
