Revoke Act 590 - Arkansas Vaping Regulations

PETITION TO REPEAL ACT 590
A Defense of Personal Freedom, Bodily Autonomy, and Responsible Adult Choice

To the Honorable Members of the Arkansas Legislature:

We, the undersigned citizens of Arkansas, respectfully submit this petition to oppose Act 590 a law that represents an unnecessary intrusion into the personal choices and bodily autonomy of responsible adults across our state.

Act 590 was introduced under the claim of protecting children from harmful products. Yet the logic behind this law is fundamentally flawed. These products are already restricted to adults 21 and older. Individuals must be of legal age not only to purchase them, but even to enter the establishments where they are sold. The existing regulations are clear, enforced, and effective.

To suggest that banning or restricting adult access somehow protects minors is not only misguided it ignores more than a century of history. Long before vapor products existed, underage individuals still found ways to acquire cigarettes. I know this firsthand; I began smoking Marlboro Reds at fifteen. Removing or restricting adult freedoms has never prevented youth access. Education, enforcement, and responsible oversight do not government overreach.

Act 590 oversteps. It presumes that the government has the authority to dictate what adult citizens may or may not put into their own bodies. It disregards the principle that has guided generations before us:

My body. My choice.

This phrase is not partisan. It is not selective. It is a universal truth woven into the fabric of personal liberty. It reflects the deep American belief that each individual has the sovereign right to make decisions about their own health, their own risks, and their own lifestyle.

We stand united in insisting that the Arkansas Legislature respect the boundaries of its power. Adults do not need protection from choices they have every legal and moral right to make. We do not need our government to parent us.

We therefore call upon our representatives to repeal Act 590 immediately and to reaffirm their commitment to personal freedom, individual responsibility, and the fundamental right of bodily autonomy.

Our message is clear, dignified, and unwavering:
You do not control what we put in our bodies. We do.

We ask you to hear the voices of your constituents and take action accordingly.

Why is this important?

Why Should Others Join This Campaign for Change?

People should join this campaign because Act 590 is not just about one product or one industry it is about something much bigger. It is about protecting the rights and freedoms of every adult in Arkansas.

When the government begins deciding what a grown, responsible adult can or cannot put into their own body, it sets a dangerous precedent. Today it’s one product. Tomorrow it could be another. Eventually, it could be anything. If we stay silent, we open the door for lawmakers to continue chipping away at our personal freedoms bit by bit until there is nothing left.

1. Bodily Autonomy Matters

Regardless of personal beliefs or lifestyle choices, everyone deserves the right to control their own body. This campaign stands for that universal principle. When one person’s freedoms are restricted, all of ours become more vulnerable.

2. This Law Was Passed Under a False Premise

Act 590 claims to “protect children,” yet the products it targets are already age-restricted. Adults are being punished under the guise of solving a problem that this law does not—and cannot—fix.

3. It Affects Small Businesses and Local Economies

This act doesn’t just limit personal choice it threatens the livelihoods of Arkansas business owners and workers who rely on these industries. When unnecessary restrictions shut down small businesses, communities suffer.

4. Freedom Is a Shared Value

No matter someone’s political views, nearly everyone agrees on one thing: government should not have unlimited authority over personal decisions.

5. If We Don’t Speak Up, Change Will Never Come

Legislators respond to numbers. The more voices that stand together, the louder our message becomes. Joining this campaign means taking an active role in shaping laws that respect adult choice, personal freedom, and rational policy making.
