It is time to embrace the contributions of indigenous people, recognize the wrongs of our nations past and overcome them together.

This Monday, the San Leandro City Council will be voting on whether to raise the flag of the People's Republic of China (PRC) over San Leandro on October 1st, "National Day". That day commemorates the establishment of the PRC, following the triumph of the communist army, led by Mao Zedong, in the Chinese Civil War. Betwee 2 and 5 million people were executed as "counter-revolutionaries" and between 4 and 6 million died in re-education camps in the two years following this date. Honoring the PRC by flying their flag, would be an an affront to all the victims of human rights violations by the current undemocratic PRC regime. In recent months, China has increased the persecution of pro-democracy activists and members of the opposition, which now languish in jails throughout the country. Its labor camps continue to be centers of torture and death, while the Tibetan people remain oppressed an not allowed to freely practice their religion. The Dalai Lama remains in exile. By raising the flag of China, San Leandro will seem to be condoning the actions of the PRC government - a government that has not been elected by its people. Please ask the members of the San Leandro City Council to vote against raising the PRC flag.

Our local Maine neighbor's are urging their state legislature to increase school funding. State aid accounts for nearly half of K-12 education funding, yet Maine has reduced that funding by $468 per student since 2008. Please sign our petition to make our local government understand that we wont take this injustice.

Term limits of ten years for Supreme Court Justices are to be set automatically on the day of the Justice's swearing in of office. There will be no continuence of life time appointments to ensure a more impartial Supreme Court.

Leadership is about compromise. Leadership is about prioritization. In 2011, only 0.7% of Americans made $250,000 or more, and paid average tax rates of less than 25%. To oppose generating revenue by raising taxes on this tiny fraction of the citizenry is to hold the country's financial future hostage. We call on GOP lawmakers to show genuine leadership, and stop putting the interests of the 0.7% above those of the nation as a whole.

I urge you to deny the proposed gravel strip mine on the top of La Bajada Mesa, south of Santa Fe near I-25. This is one of the most important historical, cultural, and scenic landmarks in New Mexico. In addition, the County has unconscionably agreed to sell scarce, potable water for mining operations and for dust control. Please stop the destruction of this treasure.
