We ask the CA Senate Appropriations Committee to pass the “Healthy Families, Healthy Workplaces Act of 2014" (AB 1522) and require employers to give employees at least three paid sick days a year. All workers deserve a healthy workplace, the opportunity to make ends meet when ill, and protection from losing their job if they’re sick.

  • Adopt the Early Education and Child Development Package – Investment of $605 million
Since 2008, early education and child development programs in California have been cut by almost $1 billion. We urge the Conference Committee to adopt the Early Education and Child Development Package Investment of $605 million. This reinvestment is a great start in building back and expanding the system.

  • End Juvenile Violence and Sexual Abuse and Put Into Place More Stringent Supervision Protocols an...
Stand together to make schools that offer education to school-aged children in grades Kindergarten-12 have strict supervision protocols. For too long there has been no set policies on sexual abuse in these schools and no set supervision protocols that staff in private, public and residential schools that have children in Grades Kindergarten-12 to ensure safeguards against violence and student on student sexual abuse or student on staff sexual abuse and violence during a bullying or hazing incident or stand alone violence. And yet, one of the reasons this goes unrecognized is schools want to protect their reputation to get the enrollment numbers up, and also, staff or students who are in imminent threat of serious bodily injury or death or who are in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death do not have the right to defend themselves. This also includes staff who are in the path of this danger.

  • Student Loan interest reduction to 0.9%
Student loans are supposed to help some of our brightest minds succeed and contribute to society. However, if you have to take out loans that are around 7% interest rate it becomes an overwhelming burden. I am calling for all student loans from all loan providers to have their interest rate reduced to 0.9% effective immediately. This goes for loans past, present and future. If I can get my car loan at 0.9% and a mortgage at less than 3.5% ,but then have to pay the government back at 7%... there is a real problem.

  • Tell Governor Snyder: Stop fracking before it pollutes the Great Lakes
At every stage of the drilling process, fracking puts the Great Lakes, and the waterways that feed them, at risk of water contamination, toxic waste spills and more. I urge you to stop the spread of fracking in Michigan before it pollutes the Great Lakes. Instead of dirty, dangerous fracking, please invest in clean energy sources like wind and solar power that don't pollute our water.

  • Hearings on the Economic Impact of Significantly More Legal Immigration
We the undersigned ask Senators Grassley and Harkin, and Congressman Latham, to press for congressional hearings on the key fact question driving the immigration debate: will significantly more legal immigration dramatically help our economy, jobs quality, and tax base, as Cato Institute economist Alex Nowrasteh says virtually all economists insist? Or do we already have too much legal immigration which is already driving down wages for high school dropouts, as CIS political scientist Steven Camarota insists? We believe this critical evidence has been ignored during the negotiations that would cap the increase over current immigration quotas at only about 25%.
