In 2014, UC corrected the “rural area” wages for the Chancellors at Merced, Irvine, Santa Barbara, Riverside and yes, Santa Cruz. As a result, Chancellor Blumenthal and his colleagues received significant raises to as one of the Regent member described it, “to correct injustices”. We understand the value of the work that the Chancellors bring to the University; now we ask that the University understand the value of the work that Teamster members perform. Low wages create retention problems among represented and non-represented workers. This is a broad issue that affects all workers at the “rural areas” campuses. We the undersigned “Rural Area” workers at UC Santa Cruz, call on Chancellor Blumenthal to publically support the end of the “Rural Area” wage disparity for all University of California workers!

Rush Limbaugh's verbal assault on Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke, calling her a "slut" and a "prostitute," was intended to do one thing: intimidate women who would dare to speak out for their reproductive freedom. But this time Limbaugh has gone too far, and it has sparked a nationwide backlash. At least 140 major advertisers have pulled their ads from the Limbaugh show, and some stations have canceled the show altogether. Rush is still on the air in Providence—So we're calling on WHJJ 920 in Providence to take Limbaugh off the air for good.

Councilmember Derrick Leon Davis surprised his colleagues by introducing a brand new County Council map. This map had not been seen by many of his colleagues, let alone the general public. It also differed significantly from the draft maps created with public input by the Prince George's County Redistricting Commission. During the meeting, Councilmember Davis refused to answer questions or explain these unnecessary changes. Councilmembers Ivey, Dernoga, Anderson-Walker, & Glaros voted AGAINST the new redistricting map which disenfranchises thousands of Black and Brown voters throughout the county. This surprise redistricting, which passed by only one vote, divides municipalities into multiple districts, and this harms the influence of Black and Brown voters in the electoral process. The lines are not defined by natural boundaries such as municipalities or major roads. This new Redistricting map has also disqualified multiple potential candidates for the County Council in the upcoming election cycle.

We are asking President Bush to publicly endorse Joe Biden in a televised (or online) speech in order to deliver the Trump campaign its final blow. President Bush needs to do what so many of us are doing in 2020 -- including many high-level Republicans -- and put his party affiliation aside in order to save American democracy. I can think of no better way for President Bush to honor his father's legacy, Senator John McCain's legacy, and to improve his own standing in American history, and honor the victims of Trump's cruelty, recklessness, and incompetence than publicly endorsing Joe Biden for president of the United States.

Taking a life (George Zimmerman) and protecting your life (Marissa Alexander) do not hold the same weight in Florida's justice system!

HB 203 is now pending in a legislative committee. It has a provision that would broaden Ohio law and bring "Stand Your Ground" to Ohio. It's time to stand our ground and let the governor and legislators know we do not want this law in Ohio.
