  • URGENT Petition in OPPOSITION to BitDeer Bitmine in Massillon - SAY NO!!!
BitDeer Inc., Singapore, Coming to SW Side of Massillon - After Being Banned from China Please sign this petition AGAINST, Bitdeer Inc., bitcoin mining operations and the proposed building of (26) 40 ft x 110 ft buildings, and (2) warehouses on 9th St., S.W., Massillon, OH near local residential areas. China has banned all crypto mining in 2021, so Bitdeer Inc., who found electricity too expensive in its own country of Singapore, expanded into rural areas of North America searching for cheap electricity near power substations. Currently, Bitdeer and has three bitcoin mining facilities in the U.S. - Pangborn, WA (13 MW), Knoxville, TN (60 MW), and Rockdale, TX (170 MW). None of which have been built near local residences. We are deeply concerned about a BitDeer bitcoin mine on the proposed site on the SW side of Massillon due to the incessant noise pollution, electricity usage, and environmental effects to local residents. The noise level as described by people who live near bitcoin mining operations, is as incessant and invasive as a jet engine. As stated by Craig Ponder, a former Navy flight meteorologist, and local resident near a bitcoin mine in Washington County, TN. “The cryptocurrency mine’s sound brings back memories,” “To me it truly sounds like a jet in our back yard sitting in the tarmac spinning up ready for take off at times, “ Ponder said. “It’s worse at night.” Cited Source: Red Dog Technologies Washington County, Tennessee. https://www.wjhl.com/news/local/noisy-mining-operation-leaves-brightridge-facing-bit-of-a-conundrum/amp Also, the disruptive noise pollution caused by bitcoin mining operations has been linked to various health issues, including: stress, sleep disturbances, anxiety, and even cardiovascular problems. Noise pollution from the bitcoin mine can travel up to 2 miles, or further, and have negative effects to residents, pets, and wildlife. The proposed bitcoin mine in Massillon will use 220 MW’s of electricity. 10 MW’s powers about 4,000 homes, so that's enough electricity to power 88,000 homes. The Massillon site would be the largest MW’s (220 MW) of a BitDeer mining facility in North America, and it is being proposed to be built on the SW side Massillon, right beside local residents. The adverse health effects of living near a bitcoin mine pose a grave concern for Massillon residents as they impact the surrounding communities quality of life and well-being. Bitdeer says the noise and electricity usage won't be a problem. Do you believe them? Do we want this in our city? The answer is NO. Sign this petition against the use of the property on 9th St SW for Bitdeer bitcoin mining operations. Sincerely, Concerned Massillon Voters, Taxpayers, and Property Owners

  • ABC News, CNN, and other news networks must ensure accountability in upcoming debates!
Update on September 12, 2024: On 9/10/24 Donald Trump and Kamala Harris had their first presidential debate moderated by ABC News. Trump repeatedly interrupted Harris AND the moderators. Add your name to demand future debate moderators hold Trump accountable for his lies and constant interruptions and uphold debate standards! The last election’s presidential debate felt more like a reality show than a serious discussion for the public to make an informed decision about our presidential candidates. Interrupting the speaker, the lack of fact-checking, and allowing childish behavior cannot be the norm when so much is at stake. We're calling on CNN and ABC News, as well as other networks broadcasting the the debates, to ensure that the upcoming debates are conducted with the utmost integrity and fairness, including live fact-checking and fair debate moderation. We demand that CNN, ABC News, and other networks implement live fact-checking to prevent misinformation and false statements from misleading the public. Live fact-checking during the debates will immediately address any false claims made by the candidates, ensuring that viewers receive accurate information in real time. Any news outlet covering the debates should make sure they are fact checking Trump and upholding journalistic ethics. Additionally, CNN and ABC News should enforce strict time limits to guarantee that each candidate has a fair opportunity to speak. If a candidate goes over their allotted time, their microphone should be cut off. This will help maintain the structure of the debate and prevent any candidate from unfairly dominating the conversation. These measures are essential for ensuring that the presidential debates provide clear, truthful, and balanced information to the public. The role of the media is crucial in upholding democratic processes, and this year they have the opportunity to set a standard for responsible journalism.

  • Save Mākaha Beach
The internationally famous Mākaha Surfing Beach and its facilities must be preserved and protected. Any new bridge or roadwork on Farrington Highway at or near the beach should incorporate the community's preferred mauka route to the north and northwest of Mākaha Beach Park as depicted on the master plan for the Mākaha Beach Park, dated May 24, 1999. If the current bridges are rebuilt as planned at their current location, such an investment (current cost of $23 M) will jeopardize the preferred mauka reroute and the Mākaha Beach Park project until these new bridges need replacement 70-100 years from now. It is extremely unlikely that anyone would be willing to tear them down for many years from now to build the mauka route and park. The community has voiced its concerns since the mid-1980s. If the current Mākaha Bridges replacement project proceeds as planned, the placing of the PROJECT's temporary bypass road on the makai side of Farrington highway will place the Mākaha Beach ecosystem in immediate peril, especially if the "five-year flood level standard" temporary bridges are washed into the bay by inland flooding or ocean surge. If the mauka route is constructed, there will be no need to construct a temporary bypass route because the current route will be fully available. Update 12/22: the Mākaha Bridges are being re-constructed; DOT didn’t do as planned to construct the steel bridges on the kai side of Mākaha Beach; DOT opted to construct off-site and install with minimal lane closures. But the facts still stand, the Master Plan is a much safer and smarter choice as it will take the bridges out of the flood zone and keep us safe from high surf, climate change, natural disasters, and the natural effects of beach erosion. It will also take away this straightaway route known for speeding and a lot of drunk driving and showcase the beauty of Mākaha with a more scenic route.

  • Universal Masking in School in Substantial Risk Category
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (NH DHHS) all recommend universal masking in schools K-12. "Due to the circulating and highly contagious Delta variant, CDC recommends universal indoor masking by all students (age 2 and older), staff, teachers, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status" (CDC). NH DHHS has provided a decision making matrix for a safe return to school based on community transmission and risk. Our school district is currently in the "Substantial Risk" category (the highest risk category). The US Department of Education states their #1 priority is the health and safety of students, school personnel, and families. At the last school board meeting it was decided to alter the guidance to allow unmasked classrooms at HCS and Hampstead Middle School in the substantial risk category against all guidance from state and federal public health experts. If you feel our schools should be following the advice from our local health officials please sign and share this petition. Thank you for your time.

  • Reclassification of Pilates Studios as Boutique Fitness Studios/Microgyms
Allowing an operation of 1-2 clients to 1 trainer. This is completely manageable based upon the large size of our facility (1200 square feet) and the minimal equipment in our space. At least six feet distance can be easily maintained by a fitness trainer and her clients. Allowing an operation of no more than 4 clients to 1 trainer ratio. This is completely manageable based upon the large size of our facility (1200 square feet) and the minimal equipment in our space. At least six feet distance can be easily maintained by a fitness trainer and her clients. All of these would take place under the guidelines of intensive hygiene requirements, radical cleaning measures, pre-screening of temperatures and brief health history upon arrival, no congregating in common areas allowed, masks to be worn by instructors, admittance permitted upon exit of preceding clients and would assume that high risk populations would be exceptions to this petition.
