  • It’s Time For The Wealthiest Americans To Pay Their Fair Share
The richest Americans have avoided paying their fair share of taxes at increasing rates over the past few decades. This has caused them to be responsible for $163 billion of lost tax revenue in a single year. Additionally, the standing tax rate for the wealthiest Americans is too low, to begin with, causing the capital of the most opulent Americans to grow at alarming rates. The middle class has suffered as a result of this because as the wealth is redistributed in favor of the super-rich, there is less available capital for them. Therefore, the United States must raise and better enforce taxes on the wealthiest one percent of Americans. Doing so will limit the extreme power that those with a disproportionate amount of wealth have in our capitalistic society and redistribute the wealth in order to make the United States into the opportunity-rich country it claims to be.

  • DO NOT CUT SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS!
With all of the economic difficulties everyone is experiencing, we seniors are often the hardest hit with the least recourse to assistance. Seniors need all of the benefits they can get. Trying to exist on a low fixed income often has many choosing between food and medical care, and can be a real nightmare. Many are terrified that they can't get the help that they need, and rightly so. Don't make it worse on them by cutting the benefits that help them survive. Do not let the government trade their literal lifeline by giving the rich another 2% of millions. They can survive without the 2%, but many seniors cannot survive with a 5% or greater cut, especially if that percent-cut rises every year. Start looking at people instead of numbers, and at who is going through what. It might open your eyes, and even your heart.

  • Sen. Harkin: We need to fight back against college rape!
Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Claire McCaskill are tired of colleges ignoring sexual assault, flouting survivor protection laws, and blaming victims for their rape. They have a plan to enforce the Clery Act, which requires colleges to disclose assaults on and off-campus, bolster Title IX protections that provide staff for survivors, and expand the Violence Against Women Act to better protect students. But they need appropriations subcommittee chairman Sen. Tom Harkin to sign on for the money needed for the Department of Education and Office of Civil Rights to get it done — and if we don't speak up, college assaults will continue to be an everyday horror ignored by millions! Will you call on the chairman to put an end to college sexual assaults?
