It started as a personal tragedy. A friend of mine tragically lost their life at Mermaids Lounge & Eatery in Spring Hill, FL on 08/17/24. It wasn't the only fatal incident to have occurred there. Enough is enough. We have felt first-hand the heartache of such a loss, and we do not want this pain for any others in our community. Mermaids Lounge & Eatery has unfortunately become a place synonymous with tragedy. The establishment has become a hub for numerous incidents leading to multiple deaths. These are not isolated events, and their recurrence points to an alarming trend of unsafe conditions that we believe are unacceptable and preventable. The safety of Spring Hill residents and visitors should be a paramount concern. We, the local community, therefore, implore the relevant authorities to investigate these incidents thoroughly and to consider our plea for the closure of Mermaids Lounge & Eatery. By closing down this establishment, we hope to prevent future tragedies and demonstrate our commitment to a safer community. Your signature can save lives. It's shameful that PA is one of the states that refuses to implement a state-wide healthcare insurance exchange; the least that Federal representatives of PA citizens can do is to make every effort to provide this most basic of needs for affordable health insurance. Don't cut a dime in federal funding for Planned Parenthood. The war against women and their right to chose should have ended in 1973. However, in 2015, it is still under constant attack. Planned Parenthood provides a variety of services to promote women's health and well being--from sex education to Pap smears to contraception. Cutting funding to Planned Parenthood is truly a War Against Women and their rights.

From the government shutdown to the debt ceiling, Tea Party Republicans have wreaked enough havoc on our country. Democrats must stand strong -- demand a vote on a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government -- and don't capitulate on Social Security, Obamacare, or other vital programs.

To help the people of Cuba and not the Goverment, Cuban and Cuban Americans are the ones suffering in this political embargo to Cuba. And their families abroad are just trying to provide for them just bare necessities such as soap and aspirin. Citizens of allied nations should not face prison time when they make an honest mistake. Andrew Tahmooressi, a former U.S. Marine, is in Mexico's LaMesa prison--and facing a lengthy sentence--because he got into the wrong lane on a Southern California freeway. He attempted to turn around after crossing the Mexican border, but was arrested on weapons charges when he truthfully told Mexican border agents that he had (legal) firearms in his truck. His fate rests in the hands of a judge in Mexico, but the U.S. State Department can and should use diplomatic pressure to free him. We ask Secretary of State John Kerry to negotiate with Mexican officials for Sgt. Tahmooressi's immediate release.
