Anthony's Act - Providing Those Suffering With Addiction a Real Chance at RecoveryThe Affordable Care Act must be amended to provide for a minimum of Ninety (90) days inpatient drug or alcohol treatment up to a maximum of One Hundred Eighty (180) days per year at a facility certified to provide such care by the Secretary of Health of the state in which it is located. Every day in this country 119 people die from drug overdose, and another 6,748 are treated in emergency rooms. That averages out to an overdose related hospitalization every 13 seconds and an overdose death every 13 minutes. Drug overdose is now the leading cause of accidental death in the United States, outstripping traffic fatalities or gun homicides. And every year it gets worse. In addition to the terrible human toll, substance abuse costs the U.S. economy over $600 billion annually. Effective treatment can dramatically reduce these costs. According to several conservative estimates, every dollar invested in addiction treatment programs yields a return of between $4 and $7 in reduced drug-related crime, criminal justice costs, and theft. When savings related to healthcare are included, total savings can exceed costs by a ratio of 12 to 1. Major savings to the individual and to society also stem from fewer interpersonal conflicts; greater workplace productivity; and fewer drug-related accidents, including overdoses and deaths. My 24-year-old son, Anthony, died May 31, 2014, following a six year battle with opioid and heroin addiction that included three unsuccessful short term treatment programs, each lasting less than 30 days, which was all that insurance would pay for. For most people, this is simply not enough time to recover from the assault addictive drugs make on the body and to restore the life skills that keep a person from relapsing. Research tells us that effective inpatient treatment leads to long term sobriety and fewer relapses. Ninety (90) day residential drug rehab is suggested as the minimum length of time for effective treatment. Anecdotal evidence gathered from post discharge patient interviews suggests that long-term treatment at a drug rehab facility can decrease the risk of drug addiction relapse by up to 73%. That can mean the difference between addiction and recovery—or even life and death. Tell your U.S. Senators and representatives: The Affordable Care Act must be amended to provide for a minimum of Ninety (90) days inpatient drug or alcohol treatment up to a maximum of One Hundred Eighty (180) days per year at a facility certified to provide such care by the Secretary of Health of the state in which it is located.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Darlene Rasmussen

Dear Sensationalist Media: Accept ResponsibilityI am writing this anonymously out of respect for one of my school classmates who lost their child in the Newtown massacre, and I do not want their names revealed out of their request for privacy. (Please do not post their names!) True we need stricter, better gun control which will hopefully gain traction in congress very soon. But the Sensationalist Media needs to take some responsibility for their role in national tragedies such as the Newtown shootings. These incidents are horrific enough without the media’s morbid obsession to glorify the killer into some mainstream Celebrity that any kid can emulate. In fact, on Sunday, LA police arrested a 24-year-old male at his parents’ house in East Hollywood. He had posted a Facebook message in which he threatened to shoot children at several elementary schools. Police found nine guns in the home. Since the gunman Adam Lanza is already dead, there is no need to inundate our screens & the internet with various shots of him. Media coverage today focuses too much on unnecessary details such as what clothes they wore, what they looked like as a kid, and how they drove from their house to the school or church. In the case of Newtown, we know that Adam drove his mother’s car. How is this relevant to anything? This week we are all trying to mourn the victims as the funerals take place. But how can the families affected get any solace when they keep seeing coverage of their own child's funeral replayed all over the internet? Why do we need to see the mother walk into the funeral of her son? Then there’s the media trucks taking over the streets of Sandy Hook, Newtown. I whole-heartedly agree with the Denver Post article from 12/17: “Newtown to the media: You're making this nightmare worse”. One resident said the huge media presence is ‘hurting the people of Newtown at a time when their hearts are already broken beyond comprehension’. One reporter actually said to another resident: 'Someone in this town has to start talking to us, this is our story!’ Where are their scruples? The media needs to leave Newtown TODAY so the affected families can grieve in Peace. Please join me by signing this petition to call upon all major media networks (CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS) to let them know that we do NOT want to see or hear about every single scene in their soap-opera story. This is also a call for the media to evaluate their reporting tactics and accept some responsibility for their role in perpetuating these gruesome events. Thank you.129 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Andrew Grochowski

The area they use should be sanitized and floor moped before client arrives set rules that next client MUST wait outside until previous client has left and area sanitized and cleaned. Client must sign a waiver that they know the risk and do not hold stylist or salon liable and have only limited services performed and hours open. Hands Off Rafah! And the entire Palestinian Territory! The United States has been the main supporter of Israel economically, politically and militarily. The state of Israel has been the largest recipient of U.S. foreign aid since its foundation receiving over $300 billion in economic and military funds. Within the year of 2023, U.S military aid amounted to more than $3.8 billion, out of which half a billion was reserved for its missile defense program. Most recently, the U.S. Senate approved $14 billion for military use alone. It is within the power of the American government to stop Israel from continuing the mass murdering of Palestinians. While completely condemning the events of October 7th and the atrocities caused to the people of Israel, it is also important to acknowledge the great suffering and human rights violations experienced by the people of Palestine from the Israeli government occupation and its military actions. Despite international pressure to prevent an invasion to Rafah, Israel's seizure of Rafah crossing, its hospitals and attacks on civilian refugee camps, along with the murdering of numerous doctors along with journalists further signals the imminent genocidal intents of the current Israeli government under the statement of "finishing the job". Rafah crossing has been a primary lifeline allowing humanitarian aid and transport of patients during the collapse of the healthcare facilities in Gaza. The main hospital in Rafah, Abu Yousef Al-Najar, closed as of May after heavy bombardment, causing medical staff as well as over 200 patients to flee. Rafah is half the size of the city of San Francisco, but with a refugee population of over 1.4 million Palestinians, which is close to twice the population of San Francisco, out of which 70% are women and children. An offensive in Rafah would be one of the greatest human massacres of our time funded directly by our tax dollars. Please stop this incredible violence towards women and children, which should not be allowed at this time in our human history, by preventing Israel from any further offensive in Rafah city and the entire Palestinian territory through the immediate implementation of sufficiently "effective" economic and military sanctions, including an end to its nuclear facilities, on the Israeli government to fully stop any further killings of innocent civilians out of which 50 % are children.76 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Karla Galdamez

Do everything you can to stop all loss of life NOW!The recent violence against civilians by Hamas and the military response led by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has already killed more than 30,000 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis, and wounded thousands more, with hundreds of people held hostage and hundreds more missing. If you’re heartbroken, you are not alone. We can hold space in our hearts to mourn these deaths, while also calling on U.S. policymakers to use their power to do everything they can to stop all further loss of innocent lives, no matter the identity.598,734 of 600,000 Signatures
