Hold the press accountable for their actionsThe First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees us the freedom of the press and we all cherish and appreciate that we have that right in this country. We all also trust that with along with that freedom there is implied trust that the members of the press will consider it their duty and responsibility to make every effort to verify the accuracy of the news items before publishing them as news. We have all seen failures if not deliberate omissions of the press to make any efforts to verify news that was released in most political campaigns of recent years and the targets have been all the major political parties; it is not a one sided scheme. So regardless of your political persuasion you should be interested in giving the press some incentive to vet their stories prior to publishing. Please sign this petition to our federal and state governments to take up this issue and render a legislative solution that, while not infringing on the 1st amendment, gives the press the incentive to not publish fake news or any news stories that cannot be verified prior to publication.15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John Porter

One Strong Solution to Identity Theft. My request is simple. You can call it Joe's Law if you want to honor all of the average Joes in the world. Why not have a Federal Government maintained list of Social Security numbers that are locked so that no new Credit Cards can be issued in your name with that SSN? It seems to me that it would be to enact and use, simply by going to a local security office with appropriate identification and ask that your SSN be locked so that no new Credit Cards could be issued against it. If you wanted a new credit card, you could have it unlocked for 48 hours or for however long it took to create the new card at your bank. Before any bank could issue a new credit card they would have to check to make certain that the SSN provided was unlocked. I am willing to bet that a simple SSN lock would prevent a lot of identity theft. If you think this is viable, ask your congressional representatives for this legislation.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Joe Neubarth

Will Justice Come to NC?Please use your authority to investigate and challenge the new voting restrictions enacted in North Carolina. You filed a federal lawsuit to stop Texas from implementing a voter ID law that is part of a pattern of racially biased election changes in that state. There is strong evidence that North Carolina’s new election changes create unjustified voting barriers for women, youth, minorities, and especially African Americans. For example, African Americans are over 50% more likely than whites to register by using Same Day Registration, to vote by using Straight Ticket Voting, and to NOT have a NC photo ID. The new law requires a photo ID and ends SDR and STV! On the other hand, whites are 60% more likely to use mail-in absentee ballots - and the new law makes forms to get mail-in ballots easier to obtain! Please use your authority under the Voting Rights Act and Constitution to fight new barriers and discrimination in our state. Thank you!483 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Bob Hall

Gov. Cuomo: No more fracked gas!In 2014, you made the right decision by banning fracking, but now we find ourselves more reliant on fracked gas than ever before. I urge you to reject ALL new fracked gas power plants -- including CPV, Cricket Valley, Danskammer, and Cayuga -- and the many proposed gas microgrids across the state. With signs of growing climate chaos all around us, it’s never been clearer that we must move off fossil fuels entirely. That starts by rejecting all new fracked gas projects.39 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Miranda Carter, Food & Water Watch

Paid Parental Leave: U.S. vs. The WorldOut of 178 nations, the U.S. is one of three that does not offer paid maternity leave benefits, let alone paid leave for fathers, which more than 50 of these nations offer. Let's get the president and congress to look at this issue and bring the US up to par with other nations.7,175 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by David

A stimulus that will workStimulate the economy by paying every mortgage in the country for one year. Let people pay their bills, refurbish their homes, whatever they need, and let that trickle to the banks, not the other way around.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Thomas Rooth
