  • Tell Mayor Bloomberg: Emergency Temporary Housing NOW.
Tens of thousands of New Yorkers devastated by Hurricane Sandy are still without heat and living in mold-infested houses creating a serious health crisis. They need safe, warm temporary housing where they live now. Volunteers can only do so much. Now it's Bloomberg's job to keep politics from saving lives. Bloomberg needs to stop blocking FEMA from getting critical temporary housing where it is desperately needed. We demand temporary emergency housing by December 25th.

  • Protect the Historic A&P Warehouse at 67 Vestry St. in Tribeca
We believe that 67 Vestry Street should be granted landmark protection. This building embodies the story of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (the “A&P”), a company founded at the now demolished Washington Market. It was built specifically for the A&P in 1897 by the important architect Frank Dinkelberg and modified with a two-story addition in 1910 by the equally well-regarded architect Frank Helme. Landmarking this handsome former warehouse would anchor the besieged Tribeca North Historic District nearby and provide visual evidence of a great period in our country’s commercial history. This building also was a keystone building that housed many great artists whose presence in Tribeca launched Tribeca's revival as a great urban neighborhood. This part of the building's story should also be honored.

  • Jack's Meat Market is a nuisance to the community.
Jack's Meat Market sells alcohol 24 hours a day. Single service beers, half pints of liquor and crack pipe roses are sold 24/7. Jack's Meat Market is also located in a residential neighborhood and has no reason to sell these items at all hours of the night. Because of this operation, people drink on the streets, around abandoned buildings and side walks. There is loitering and drug dealing. No one from Jack's Meat Market calls the police. We believe this type of operation leads to more violent crimes. Please sign this petition to show your support of our cause to reduce violent crime in New Orleans. We feel Jack's Meat Market is a nuisance to the community and needs to be shut down.

  • Mayor Mike Bloomberg: Stop dousing NYC's public spaces with Roundup and other pesticides!
According to the Department of Health's report on city pesticide use in 2011, Roundup, the weed-killing key to Monsanto's agribusiness empire, is the city's most heavily used liquid herbicide. Roundup is Monsanto's signature blend of glyphosate—a compound that works by disrupting an enzyme key to plant growth—and other ingredients to destroy weeds. Let's switch to non-toxic solutions including vinegar and alcohol to kill weeds. Please stop spraying Roundup and other toxic pesticides in our public spaces. It is poisoning our children and pets and polluting our environment. Other cities, including Chicago and Boulder have stopped spraying these toxins. Please stop dousing NYC with chemicals!

  • Mayor Bloomberg Correct the 9/11 Memorial Mistake
We the citizens of the United States of America who all honor the heroic first responders on 9/11, call on you to rectify the placement of Mohammad Salman Hamdani's name on the 9/11 Memorial. He was a NYPD cadet and first responder who perished doing his duty on 9/11 and his city dishonors his legacy by not paying its rightful respects.

  • Save Greenwich Village and NYU: Stop the Sexton Plan
We, the undersigned, deplore the New York City Council's vote in favor of the NYU expansion plan. The people of the Village voiced their overwhelming opposition to the project, while 37 of NYU’s own departments and divisions passed resolutions urging NYU President John Sexton to reconsider it. In light of that broad opposition, and the many cogent arguments against the plan, we now call on NYU’s administration to abandon it, and to resume the proper mission of a university, with a new commitment to education and research, fiscal responsibility, the sustainable use of resources and space, and a neighborly respect for the community and character of Greenwich Village.
