The student debt crisis is a prime example of why it is so vitally important to get the money out of politics. Since 2011, Sallie Mae has spent over $5 million on lobbying against the best interest of of countless student borrowers and the U.S. taxpayers. With the removal of bankruptcy protections from both federal and private student loans, lenders such as Sallie Mae are able to offer loans with virtually no risk. To make matters worse, Sallie Mae also owns many of the collection companies that collect on defaulted student loans. Once a student defaults, as much as 25% can be added to the principal, allowing Sallie Mae to make more money if a borrower defaults. At a time when college tuition is skyrocketing and 1 out of 5 borrowers are now defaulting (leaving the taxpayer on the hook for the bill), student lending executives should not be rewarded for fleecing the taxpayers. Companies such as Sallie Mae are destroying our higher education system, our democracy, and the lives of millions. The ever-growing student debt crisis will never be solved as long as those whose duty it is to protect the taxpayers are in the pocket of the nation’s largest student loan company. Signing this petition tells the Texas Medical Board they need to stand by the physicians and nurses who have survived the abuse committed by Aravind Sankar, as well as protect female healthcare workers moving forward. The Texas Medical Board must finally take a stand against intimate partner violence & revoke the medical license of Aravind Sankar. He has committed violent felonies against multiple female healthcare workers. Despite numerous criminal cases and reports of assault, he is still allowed to practice medicine. His most recent felony conviction is the first time he has been sentenced to any time in jail. Since 2015 he has been charged with multiple crimes, including strangulation & sexual assault against numerous women. Despite convictions and other violations of probation, he has faced no real consequence from the Texas Medical Board. He has violent offenses awaiting prosecution & has a long-standing history of abuse against physicians & nurses spanning over the last 25 years. Having him in the workplace is a liability to all women who work in the hospital system and potentially even the patients he treats. His abuse and violence is dangerous. Allowing him to keep his license is against our oath as physicians to do no harm.

HB1007, the Freedom to Vote Act, is before the Maryland Senate. This bill would automatically register eligible Maryland citizens to vote when they get or update a driver's license. It would also require Maryland's public colleges and universities to allow students to register to vote through the online portals they use to sign up for classes. As your constituent, I am asking you to vote for the Freedom to Vote Act and make it easier, not harder to vote in Maryland.

President Obama and Congress should ensure that if the Israeli Knesset punishes Israeli human rights groups that receive funding from foreign governments, rich U.S. benefactors of the Israeli Right, including of the settlers' movement, will be subject to similar restrictions in the U.S.

EUSD Board Trustee, Jose Fragozo has been the target of a campaign to discredit him and prevent him from serving the voters who elected him to office. On December 2nd, 2015, Escondido Union School District Superintendent Luis Rankins-Ibarra took out a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against Jose. As the Union Tribune states "The complaint doesn't list any incidents in which Fragozo specifically threatened violence." (Dec 4, 2015) However, Jose has repeatedly expressed concern that the district's children, particularly the English Language Learners, were not being served by the district and that he felt the board was not doing its job.He also gave Mr. Ibarra a negative job performance review. As is often the case when people speak out, the school board majority and administrative staff ignored the content of Jose's message and focused instead on the tone he used when speaking about these important issues. It is vital that the only Democrat and Latino board member (in a district with 75% Latino students who are not being educated properly according to the recent WestEd report) is supported by our community.
