As educators, we sit on the front lines of the impacts of federal deportation policy on Oregonian children and their families and we strongly support the commitment the Governor has made to keeping families together.

We want Berks County PA Commisioners and Bethel Township Supervisors to abide by the well reasoned denial by the local Bethel Township Zoning Hearing Board to allow a 255ft communications tower to be erected within a thriving residential community right next to the Appalachian Trail. Use the existing tower that American Tower Corporations has already offered and is able to hold all of the equipment with room left over!

Please oppose the juvenile transfer section of HB 217. This section of the bill would remove judicial oversight and lead to the unchecked prosecution of children in adult court. Currently, our system mandates judges to consider eight separate factors in determining whether to transfer the case to adult court. This bill gives prosecutors absolute discretion to prosecute youth in the adult criminal justice system. Judges should continue to serve as the neutral, unbiased decision maker in transfer cases. Oppose the juvenile transfer section of HB 217 in order to maintain the appropriate checks and balances in NC's court system.

Investigate fully and properly the 2008 DC CAS test scores. Ms. Rhee was right, those scores were "unbelievable." In the push for accountability, the chancellor must lead by example. Taking credit for faulty scores only hurts our students' education because no one knows what actually works when it comes to educational improvement.

Prevent severe cuts to the funding of scientific research at private institutions from taking place.
