“The Sentinel Act”: Electronic Monitoring of Nursing Home PremisesRhode Island a year in review of Elder Care: Pawtuxet Village closed after overdosing, death, and neglect issues. An on duty nurse employed while wearing an ankle bracelet as court ordered. Hebert Nursing Home in Smithfield multiple allegations of sexual assaults on female resident and 5 “whistle blower” nurses lose their jobs. Summerville Assisted Living an ongoing investigation of a murdered resident by another resident, living as a convicted felon at the facility and “caught on surveillance cameras”. In lieu of victims coming forward and these disturbing cases, the Alliance for Safe Communities, www.asc-ri.org will be introducing “ The Sentinel Act” Bill H5251 Electronic Monitoring of Nursing Home Premises. This law will afford video surveillance be provided in common areas in all nursing home areas. Families will be offered the opportunity to have a camera installed in the patients’ room, “opt in or opt out.” This is not expensive technology with an average routine cost of about $20.00 a month. The new Obama care plan and other federal funds may provide for the necessary cost. Privacy can be maintained by having “in house review”, of the video of which will be stored for a limited time. Some states such as Texas have mandated cameras in all nursing homes due to serious cases of documented abuse and neglect. Families nationwide have begun to “plant” video surveillance cameras in loved ones rooms. Video surveillance cameras in nursing homes offer an opportunity for the health care industry to provide for better health care and protection of our elders. It also protects them from liability without impeding their ability to care for the patients. The face of the elder population being served in facilities is changing. More mentally ill, criminals, and sex offenders are often introduced into facilities. There is no mandatory notification by law to other residents or their families. Our vulnerable elderly citizens are exposed each day to multiple care givers with varying degree of skills, many of whom are strangers, to the patient. The time has come for change in the nursing home industry. Families are moving forward with 21st century technology and so must the providers who care for our most vulnerable population. We therefore ask for your support by signing this petition in support of protecting our elderly. NOTE: YouTube has many videos and you can either search footage of elder abuse nursing homes or paste this link into your browser (Please be warned the footage of abuse presents terrible images): http://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?p=youtube+nursing+home+abuse1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Suzanne Arena

Apple, recall the 2009-2011 iMacsApple, recall the 2009-2011 iMacs. The 2009-2011 iMacs should be recalled immediately. Originally, several major tech blogs and main stream media outlets were covering a yellow screen issue from late 2009 to the first half of 2010 that took you several months to admit was happening. Then hard drives started failing and people were receiving iMacs with cracked screens. It was a mess, and you finally caved to pressure and admitted there was an issue with the yellowing iMac screen. You told people to contact you if their screen had a yellow tinge or if there were any other issues with it. After that, every news outlet promised to drop the story since you finally addressed it. And you offered replacement screens for current iMac owners. You'd think everything would be solved then, but several users started reporting that they had gone through 3-5 screen replacements with the same or worse screen issues. I tried contacting tech news blogs to see if they'd start covering the issue of these iMacs again, but they told me to just contact you and get you to replace my screen. Obviously, that doesn't work. I'm an owner of the original late 2009 27" iMac, and I've been able to live with the yellow screen tinge in hopes that you will finally admit that this is not just a display issue but a flaw in the hardware design of the iMac. Recently, I also started noticing a stain-like appearance on the right edge of the screen and started googling the issue. Apparently, others had been seeing stains, condensation and strange grey smudges all over their screens. It has started becoming about as big an issue as the yellow tinge problem. You have told your customers it is an "environmental issue" and that Apple will not address this problem. Replacing the screen does not solve any of these issues, and I don't think it ever will. All these problems are a result of flaws in the hardware design of these iMacs. There is a newly designed iMac that just came out this year, so I don't want all of these iMac owners, including me, to be stuck with a defective machine. The screen is now shielded from the hot-running hardware, so I think the LCD screen will finally be protected. If this hardware re-design does solve the issue, I think we all deserve a free trade-in for the new iMac or a full refund of our current machines. Apple, recall these iMacs now. The longer you wait, the larger the damages and consequences will be.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Toby Cummings

The whole country, businesses and public both would be fully engaged just like in WWII including making sacrifices(rationing) as necessary. 5 KW photovoltaic systems on 50% of all single family dwellings that are higher than 50 feet above sea level(or the high water mark of the nearest river) 15 KW photovoltaic systems on 50% of multi-family dwellings of 2 units or more higher than 50 feet above sea level(or the high water mark of the nearest river) Solar hot water units on 50% of all family dwellings 1 all electric car per household to be used as the main commuter vehicle for the household Install one thousand, 1000 MW photovoltaic sun farms in the south western U.S. Reduce air conditioning demand by 25% by use of natural cooling techniques Install one hundred 1 million gallon per day desalinization plants on each coast and 50 on the gulf with pipeline distribution systems similar to natural gas Construct new biosphere style cities inland for the millions of people that will be displaced from coastal areas when the sea level rises Move more people back to farms to ensure a quality food supply planted, cultivated and harvested sustainably Plant crops, vegetation and trees further north to adjust for the temperature rise Change the age limit for driving to 18 and a High School diploma and add proficiency tests for people over 70, this will increase demand for public transportation and decrease energy demand) Elect and appoint people to work on these goals that will have the spiritual and bodily strength to make the hard decisions Reduce consumption of seafood and beef by 75% to decrease the destructive demand on the natural resources (eat chicken and tofu for protein) This will keep people employed either with business or in public service implementing this plan. High School graduates would serve 2 years in a job corps supporting these items. Companies, groups and individuals that campaign against this plan to stop using fossil fuels and reduce the impact on climate change would be held accountable. By 2050: Connect all 48 state Capitals(Hawaii is obviously out, Alaska can be included if practical) with 200 MPH commuter trains. Culver City School Board: We support giving the voters the right to vote on a school facilities b...1) OUR SCHOOLS DESPERATELY NEED THIS: Our great schools are in a desperate and even dangerous state of disrepair and neglect. Over $165 million of critical repairs have been investigated, catalogued and presented to the school board and the public. 2) THIS IS AN INEXPENSIVE & SMART BOND: This bond will cost the average homeowning voter $6 per month. This small amount, however, will leverage $70 million to repair & modernize our schools. Any delays risk an increase in current historic low-interest rates which could cost the taxpayers millions in higher repayments. 3) BONDS ARE THE BEST MECHANISM: The only way a small school district like ours can leverage enough money to even make at least 40% of these repairs & upgrades is through a bond. This is the way that almost all school districts in our situation have always done it in California because of prop 13. 4) VOTERS OVERWHELMINGLY SUPPORT IT: Two-thirds of the voters most likely to vote in November have said they would support a $70 million bond, including over 60% of seniors. Only one-quarter oppose it. And that is before any organizing campaign to increase parent & supporter voter turnout has begun. Our pollster has a 95% accuracy rate over 19 years. Our bond campaign consultant team have won the bond election in 47 of the last 49 districts that have hired them. We only need 55% of voters to support it to win. We will achieve far more than that. 5) SUPERINTENDENT HAS WORKED ON THIS FOR A YEAR: The superintendent has been talking about the facilities needs in our district since he was hired a year ago. He’s done countless facility walk-throughs. The school board hired a respected firm to catalog every single possible issue that was in need of repair. They also hired one of the strongest bond counsel, bond campaign team and bond pollster in the entire state. While some school board members have raised legitimate questions in this final hour, none of these questions merit a delay in the bond election. Instead, the board should pass a comprehensive accountability & facility master plan process to cover the life of this bond & beyond. Such a plan + the money from a November bond are the best steps to make sure our schools never falls into such a state of disrepair again. Our schools belong to the community. The community wants this bond. They have the right to let their votes be counted. Just because the school board is not united doesn’t mean our community isn’t. Don’t block our right to vote- put the bond on the November ballot.550 of 600 SignaturesCreated by United Parents of Culver City

Simply Medicare: Save Prescription Drug CostsEach year millions of Medicare beneficiaries are asked to choose a new Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan, remain with their current plan, or pay a penalty for failing to enroll in Medicare Part D. I am quite certain that President Obama, Speaker Boehner, or Senate President Harry Reid have not engaged in this process, sitting down to their computers, entering the names of their medications, the dosage, and the number of times a day they take the medication, then waiting for their computer to list the hundreds of Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans from which they must choose the best one. Each plan has preferred pharmacies and each drug price differs from one pharmacy to another. When a beneficiary's drug costs reaches $2970, the beneficiary must pay the the negotiated percentage for their medication until the beneficiary has out-of-pocket costs of $4750. Then catastrophic coverage will commence and the beneficiary cost will be small.. Because each plan has a different deductible, copay, and coinsurance, and the prescribed drug may or may not be on the formulary, or may be a Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, Tier 4 or Tier 5, the cost of each drug plan will differ substantially and the beneficiary must check with each plan to inquire about drug costs. Of course the beneficiary will be given a premium and an estimated drug cost. The beneficiary will be told that drug prices change from one day to the next and from one pharmacy to the next. Our seniors are often remaining on a plan that does not meet their needs because they do not know which plan is best. Many are foregoing their prescribed drugs because their drug is not on the Prescription Drug Plan's Formulary or the copay and coinsurance are too costly. These seniors grow more ill over time, developing serious conditions with serious consequences like the loss of a limb, the need for an organ transplant, wounds that will not heal - all consequences of a single untreated case of diabetes. Call, write, and email President Obama, Speaker Boehner, Senator Harry Reid and your Senators and Representatives and demand a Single Payer System. Put an end to this nightmare experience for our seniors. Put an end to the high cost of Medicare Part D Prescription Drugs. Demand a Single Payer System. Demand that our Senators, Representatives and President and all government employees participate in the similar Prescription Drug Program and experience what our seniors experience. Our seniors are given a window of time from October 15 to December 7 to change their Prescription Drug Plan each year. Let's ask our government officials to appreciate the experience annually just as our seniors do or Fix it NOW!8 of 100 SignaturesCreated by JANE CRIMMINS

Board of Education of the Farmingdale School District: Adopt a Resolution Against High-Stakes, St...ToThe Board of Education of the Farmingdale Union-Free School District: We, the residents of the Farmingdale School District, respectfully request that the Board of Education of the Farmingdale School District pass a resolution against state-mandated, high-stakes standardized testing for the following reasons: • New York State Math and ELA assessments and assessments tied to APPR are putting undue stress on our students and teachers. They force teachers to teach to the test which ultimately narrows the curriculum in our schools. Students, especially those in grades K-5, are receiving inadequate instruction in subjects such as social studies and science. We want our children to receive a well-rounded education, not one that is limited to test-prep. • The mandates imposed on our district by New York State Education Department that are associated with high-stakes tests place an unwarranted financial burden on our schools. We are concerned that programs such as music, art and sports will be cut back to meet those mandates. • This year’s tests will be aligned with the Common Core Learning Standards. They are unproven, untested and poorly implemented. Testing our children in this climate is unfair. • Testing mandates associated with Race to the Top do not take into account the specific needs of students with Individualized Education Plans, English language learners and children who live in poverty. As a result, these children are expected to pass the tests at the same rate as other students, and they are suffering under the pressure of unrealistic expectations. • There is no evidence that using student test scores to evaluate teachers and schools will improve teaching and learning. Therefore, it is a waste of taxpayer money to engage in a practice that is unproven AND expensive. • NYSED arbitrarily manipulates the scores from the NYS ELA and Math assessments to suit its political agenda. This renders the scores meaningless. • NYSED will mine the data from this year’s scores into inBloom, a national database whose primary purpose is to share our children’s personal information with vendors. This is being done without parents’ permission, and inBloom will not guarantee the security of that data. In light of the recent data breaches reported in the media, we do not want this data transfer to occur. As of now, over 135 districts across New York State have adopted resolutions against high-stakes tests. There is strength in numbers, and we, the residents of the Farmingdale SD, would like join our sister districts in expressing our displeasure at the direction in which NYSED is taking our schools. Please exercise your voice as representatives of the Farmingdale School District community to stand up for what is right for our students and schools. Sincerely, [Your name]234 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Camille Toma

Suggestions for New Walmart CEOAN OPEN LETTER TO DOUG McMILLON, NEW CEO OF WALMART This petition is from an ad hoc committee whose one purpose is to point out the enlightened self-interest of making a bold move to increase Walmart's corporate minimum wage to give its employees a livable salary. Our aim is to highlight the long-term benefits that will accrue should Mr. McMillon see the wisdom of using his new post to turn the image of his company around. Please read and sign if you wish to join us in this endeavor. Robert Terpstra, [email protected] Judy Hyman Steve West Judy West Delray Beach, FL Dear Doug McMillon, Congratulations on your appointment to the post of Walmart CEO. This position gives you tremendous power to do good. Good for your company, good for your employees, good for your customers, and good for your country. We the undersigned respectfully request that you implement a bold plan that will benefit everyone Walmart touches. The positive PR alone will bring customers flocking to your stores. Consider what would happen if you raised your company's minimum wage to $12.50 an hour. This courageous step would immediately change Walmart’s image in many minds from greedy to benevolent. With no apparent downside, here are 10 probable positive results: 1. Employees would be happier working for Walmart. 2. Highly qualified persons would compete for jobs at Walmart. 3. Employee turnover would by sharply reduced. 4. Satisfied employees would make for a better atmosphere for shoppers and management as well. 5. Walmart's sales would go up because of the good will created by this action. 6. Customers who now avoid shopping at Walmart would no longer avoid the store. 7. Priceless positive PR would be generated. All the recent negative publicity would begin to be reversed. 8. Walmart would be looked upon as a corporate champion of the middle class, filling a major vacuum that exists today. 9. Much of the burden of paying for food stamps and other benefits for your employees would be shifted from the taxpayers, showing the world that Walmart is patriotic enough to pay its own way. 10. Community relations would soar as it is seen that Walmart is a concerned member of communities throughout America. In the end, what might in the short run be looked upon as an expense, would actually be a smart long term investment for the company that will be repaid many times over. With all that said, the real bottom line is---it's just the right thing to do! We hope you will make the bold step of raising employee wages, at the same time raising Walmart’s esteem in the eyes of the country.69 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Bob Terpstra

Petition to Reform the United States CongressPetition to Reform the United States Congress Whereas the members of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives do little to represent the Citizens of the United States. They do much to protect their own interests and increase their own power and influence. They have made a very nice deal for themselves including attractive pay and hours, a great pension plan, superb health care plan, with little responsibility or accountability. The appearance is that they are beholden to those that can compensate them for their votes; they are not particularly accountable to their voting constituency. The voting public has the power to reform the United States Congress and hereby propose and adopt the following reforms. 1. Term Limits. Every United States Senator and Member of the House of Representatives shall be limited to a total term of Twelve (12) years only, using one of the possible options below: A. Two Six-year Senate terms B. Six Two-year House terms C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms 2. No Tenure / No Pension. Every United States Senator and Member of the House of Representatives shall collect a salary while in office and receive no pay when they are out of office. 3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the extremely generous Congressional retirement fund shall be moved to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. Members of Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress may no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise every two years by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. No Congressional Health Care. Congress loses their current luxury health care system. They can purchase and participates in the same health care system available to the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11. No exceptions. 8. No Lobbying or other government work. All former members of Congress will be prohibited from accepting employment, pay, favors, or other consideration from any U.S. Government agency and shall be prohibited from lobbying any U.S. Government agency or institution on behalf of any private company. It will be a federal crime to employ, pay, or compensate a former member of Congress for any work, influence, lobbying, or other service having to do with the business of any U.S. Government agency or institution.81 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kevin McConnell

Congressional Reform Act of 2011Friends , I have sat over the years, watching the 'gang' in Washington, both Democrats and Republicans do whatever they wanted, and did nothing. I received this message and feel that at least I can pass it on, as I totally believe every single idea. I am sending it to you in hopes you will keep it going. This is something we must fight for and I hope you all read it all the way through. You will be glad you did. The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure. I'm asking each of you to sign this petition and email it to a minimum of twenty people on your address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. Congressional Reform Act of 2011 1. No more Congressional Pension - A Congressman collects a salary only while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office. a. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. b. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 2. Congressional Pay Raises - Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 3. No more Congressional healthcare - Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 4. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 5. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective January 1, 2012. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is time. THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!! If you agree with the above, pass it on.189 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Gary Fennell
