  • A case of justice denied
Free Robert Howe Do we always need to wait until an unjust death occurs? Robert (Bobby) needs a loud voice to be heard, one that stands for justice. Moreover, in the name of journalistic integrity, the true story of what occurred that last September (miss reported at the time) needs to be told. Further, the good people of the City and the nation need to see that justice can indeed be done. In the current environment, why not take this on. What if it was your son, or your brother, or perhaps your Dad or favored uncle or cousin, simply and quietly eating breakfast before reporting to work? Would you be outraged to see that the law indicates that although each of your family members were threatened with bodily harm and illegally restrained, that they had to wait to be attacked before taking any action to defend themselves? What if any one of them had undergone open heart surgery so that their ribs were held together by metal rings leading them to fear that the threatened attack had the real potential to end their life? Could they then be justified in taking proactive measures to defend their lives? What would you think about holding Robert Howe, who fits the above, some nine month now because in fear of his life he took steps to defend himself against the threats of four drug addicts (4 against 1) and has become a pawn to be used by an ADA interested solely in getting an indictment, let justice fall where it may? All the necessary documentation, including a video, can be made available. Raised in East Harlem and from a broken home, Robert (Bobby) has a past but some 30 years ago. He overcame his early beginnings, is now 56 years of age, has been married 26 years, is a father and grandfather, an A plus certified IT technician and had just started a new job as a journeyman locksmith after some 5 years unemployed due to the downturn in IT. His condition requires that he take several medications to maintain his life and yet the prison system, on more than one occasion, has denied him these lifesaving prescribed medications. Much has been made of the fact that Bobby injured his attacker during the attack on Bobby but no concern at all has been expressed for the injuries inflicted upon Bobby by his attackers. Respectfully, Roy T. Howe ([email protected])

Oakland Board of Port Commissioners Michael Colbruno, President Andreas Cluver, First Vice President Barbara Leslie, Second Vice President Arabella Martinez, Commissioner Jahmese Myres, Commissioner Stephanie Dominguez Walton, Commissioner Yui Hay Lee, Commissioner 530 Water Street Oakland, CA 94607 Subject: Proposal to Rename Oakland International Airport to Oakland International Kamala Harris Airport Dear President Colbruno, First Vice President Cluver, Second Vice President Leslie, and Commissioners Martinez, Myres, Dominguez Walton, and Lee, I am writing to propose renaming Oakland International Airport in honor of Vice President Kamala Harris. This change would not only celebrate an extraordinary leader but also reinforce Oakland’s unique identity on a national and global stage. Below are ten compelling reasons why this renaming is both fitting and beneficial: 1. Trailblazing Leadership: Vice President Harris ran a historic campaign for the presidency, demonstrating her role as a trailblazer and inspiration to many. 2. Significant Investment: Her campaign mobilized substantial resources, spending over a billion dollars to promote progress and equity. 3. Hometown Pride: Born in Oakland, Vice President Harris is a proud product of our city and a living testament to its values. 4. Global Recognition: Her influence extends far beyond Oakland, amplifying the city’s legacy wherever she goes. 5. A Well-Deserved Honor: Vice President Harris would undoubtedly embrace and value this meaningful recognition from her hometown. 6. Rebranding Opportunity: This renaming would offer Oakland a fresh opportunity to rebrand and reposition itself as a hub of progress and innovation. 7. Community Connection: Oakland is proud to claim Vice President Harris as one of its own, embodying the city’s ethos of diversity and resilience. 8. Historical Legacy: Honoring her reinforces Oakland’s tradition of recognizing and celebrating its homegrown leaders. 9. Loyalty to its Leaders: Oakland has a long-standing reputation for showing loyalty and pride in its trailblazing figures. 10. Symbol of Empowerment: This renaming would solidify Oakland’s commitment to celebrating its legacy and inspiring future generations. Vice President Kamala Harris exemplifies the resilience, diversity, and forward-thinking values that Oakland stands for. Renaming the airport in her honor would not only celebrate her contributions but also serve as a lasting symbol of our city’s pride and legacy. Thank you for considering this proposal. I am confident that this change would garner widespread support from the Oakland community and beyond. Sincerely, Monesha Jemia MJ Carter

  • MAYOR BOWSER: DC Demands For Change
On the night of June 23, 2020, organizers and protestors were exercising their First Amendment right to peaceful protest and assembly at Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, DC. Mayor Bowser allowed the Metropolitan Police Department to ambush, brutalize, and unfairly arrest peaceful protestors. This is a blatant attack on black citizens and their allies. This is a clear indication that any support Mayor Bowser claims she has for Black Lives Matter is purely performative. This was a direct warning by Mayor Bowser that she wishes the protests to end. We will not be silenced. We will not be scared away. We will #occupyHstreet every night until our demands are met. Our demands are outlined below: 1) DEFUND THE POLICE! Restructure the DC federal budget to expand funding for social services by reallocating funds from law enforcement to social service programs. Expand funding for the following services: healthcare, quality education, mental healthcare, housing, and food assistance. 2) HOLD THE POLICE ACCOUNTABLE! Institute a system of independent investigations into police misconduct consisting of defense attorneys and investigators to fight bias within connected departments. Establish a standardized test for mental fitness for all peacekeeper (police officer) departments that will evaluate each potential officers’ bias tendencies. End qualified immunity; a citizen should be able to sue an officer for violating their rights without having to cite another legal case that ruled in their favor. 3) REFORM THE PRISON SYSTEM! End solitary confinement, as it is cruel & unusual punishment. Develop mental health and social services offered in prisons. Institute programming in prisons such as education, trade, etc. 4) END THE SCHOOL TO PRISON PIPELINE! Get cops out of schools. The current system shuts down opportunities for advancement for students of color and funnels them into the criminal justice system. End the academic brutalization of black and brown children. Every child has the right to quality education. 5) INVEST IN OUR YOUTH! Set aside more money to provide black and brown people with more opportunities and access to education, grants, and scholarships. Require that high schools offer in-school voter registration for eligible students. 6) END DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES! If a person is denied employment due to their criminal history, the crime must be related to the position. There is no reason for companies to ask if a person has ever committed a crime unless it is in relation to the position – this is a discriminatory question. End of predatory probationary practices (i.e. drug tests and other measures that target people of color). 7) BUILD A COMMUNITY! Create coalitions between peacekeepers and citizens. Listen to black citizens.

  • End Homelessness in America
homelessness did not disappear in the 1990s, despite the nation’s economic boom. In fact, it appears to have increased. On any given day, at least 800,000 people are homeless in the United States, These startling statistics, however, do not tell the whole story. Homelessness in America is a “revolving-door” crisis. Many people exit homelessness quickly, but many more individuals become homeless every day. During a year’s time, four or five times as many people experience homelessness as are homeless on any particular day. Calculations from different sources show that in the late 1990s at least 2.3 million, and perhaps as many as 3.5 million, people experienced homelessness at some time during an average year. Because more families with children than unpartnered people enter and leave homelessness during a year, families represent a relatively large share of the annual population. As a result, during a typical year, between 900,000 and 1.4 million children are homeless with their families. Annual homelessness figures exceed 1 percent of the total U.S. population and may represent as much as 10 percent of all poor people in this country. Even though many of these people are homeless for only a short time, each spell can be devastating. With 1 out of every 10 poor people in America facing homelessness at some time during an average year, current policies clearly are not working. Homelessness stems from desperate poverty combined with unaffordable housing in communities too strapped to support their most troubled members. These circumstances explain why between 5 and 10 percent of poor people experience homelessness in a period as short as a year. Personal difficulties, such as mental disabilities or job loss, may increase vulnerability to homelessness, but they cannot explain the high number of people who fall into homelessness every year. And housing market trends indicate that the situation is getting worse rather than better. Current levels of housing costs, coupled with low-wage jobs and economic contraction, could push even the working poor out of their homes. Although the availability of homeless services increased significantly during the past decade, meeting the needs of people once they become homeless is not enough. A concerted national strategy is needed to prevent homelessness, and to end quickly discrete episodes of homelessness if they become inevitable. That strategy must include new housing resources as well as community-building strategies that address the societal factors contributing to homelessness. Each community must work to supply affordable housing, improve schools, and provide support services for those in need. Only strategies that address systemic problems as well as provide emergency relief can eliminate homelessness in this country.

  • City of Chicago: Stop Wasting Our Tax Dollars
City of Chicago elected officials have failed Chicago tax payers. Misuse of public funds: the City of Chicago spends $40M annually on private law firms, solely for the purpose of defending public servants. The City of Chicago could save an estimated 80% by using their existing internal law department. Instead, city officials excessively opted for the unnecessary expense of private law firms, despite no requirement to do so. Unnecessary spend defending disgraced public servants: this egregious amount includes $35.7M spent on private law firms defending disgraced Detective Reynaldo Guevara. This is in addition to $60.5M already spent on settlements related to Guevara's actions, with an additional 34 lawsuits pending. Disregard for accountability: Guevara has collected $1.4M in pension payments, since retiring to Texas, as Guevara has never faced criminal charges, despite an uncontested record of misconduct. Lack of transparency: the City of Chicago fails to publicize the names of private law firms used, the amount spent on each law firm, and/or potential list of conflicting interests. We, the tax payers of Chicago, demand City of Chicago elected officials immediately: (1) Fulfill fiduciary responsibility to tax payers: prioritize use of internal law department over use of private law firms. (2) Ensure transparency regarding use of tax funds:        (a) Historical: publish list of private law firms contracted by the City of Chicago over the last 5 years, to include, at a minimum:                  I. Identifying information: name and location of private law firm;                 II. Spend: amount spent by the City of Chicago, by law firm;                III. Beneficiaries: names of all employees (City of Chicago and private law firms) benefiting, in any capacity, from City of Chicago procurement of said private law firm; and               IV. Potential conflicts of interest: detailed list of all employees (both City of Chicago and private law firms) with potential conflicts of interest arising from procurement of private law firms.        (b) Future: publish annual report, detailing City of Chicago use of private law firms, to include, at a minimum, sub-points I (Identifying information), II (Spend), III (Beneficiaries), and IV (Potential conflicts of interest) above. (3) Hold public servants accountable: at a minimum:        (a) Investigation: a thorough and immediate investigation of Guevara's misconduct;        (b) Accountability: swift and just criminal charges for any public servant's misconduct, including Guevara; and        (c) Transparency: prompt and consistent public communication regarding investigation and decision regarding criminal charges against Guevara.

  • Justice for Jose Jaime Tirado III – Stop Retaliatory CM1
Secretary Dixon, we are calling on you to immediately reverse the unlawful Close Management Level 1 placement of Jose Jaime Tirado III (DC# 132634), investigate the retaliatory actions taken against him, and hold those responsible accountable.  On June 7, 2025, DOC accused Jose of assault. The alleged victim told the classification team (ICT) he was not in fear of anyone. That victim and another man were released from confinement — until families began demanding answers. Suddenly, both men were thrown back in confinement, an obvious attempt to justify holding Jose for over two months without due process.  Jose’s CM1 placement was never disclosed to him. The truth only came out after his father called and demanded answers. He still has:  • No disciplinary report • No written notice of CM status or justification • No access to rights guaranteed under CM rules • Multiple public records requests ignored — the only reply violated Florida law Florida DOC has violated:   • Rule 33-601.800 – Requires timely CM decisions, written notice, and justification. • Rule 33-601.731 & 33-601.800(7)(b) – Any restriction of communication privileges must be documented and shared with the inmate and family. • Rule 33-602.221 – CM1 inmates should be single-celled for safety; Jose was housed with another inmate. • Rule 33-602.205 – Facilities must provide reasonable access to communication/grievance systems; DOC failed when systems were “down.” • Florida Statute Chapter 119 – Requires timely access to public records; DOC refused. • Florida Statute § 945.10(1)(d) – Status classifications are not exempt from release to legal family representatives. • Fourteenth Amendment – Indefinite isolation without timely decision or notice violates due process. • Eighth Amendment – Prolonged isolation without cause is cruel and unusual punishment. Jose entered prison at 18 years old. In nearly 15 years, he has worked to better himself, mentor others, and avoid trouble. This CM1 placement is not about safety — it is targeted retaliation for asserting his rights and for his family demanding transparency.   We demand:   1. Immediate written notice to Jose of his CM status and the justification for it. 2. His release from unlawful CM isolation. 3. Full compliance with Florida’s Public Records Act in this case. 4. An investigation into the retaliatory re-confinement of witnesses. 5. Enforcement of Florida DOC’s own rules and administrative codes. The public is watching. We will not allow retaliation, cover-ups, and abuse of Close Management to continue unchecked.

  • Protect Public Beach Access in Boca Grande – Stop the Lee County Parking Restrictions
To: Governor Ron DeSantis Email: [email protected] Dear Governor DeSantis, I am writing to express deep concern over a recent decision by the Lee County Commission that threatens long-standing public beach access in Boca Grande, Florida. On August 5, 2025, the Commission unanimously approved a new parking ordinance that: • Eliminates public parking access from 1st Street to 19th Street in Boca Grande, restricting it solely to permit holders—residents, hotel guests, employees, and approved nonprofit volunteers. • Limits downtown parking to just three hours for all others, effectively deterring longer recreational visits and harming local businesses. • Imposes steep fines—up to $300 for parking in residential zones and $500 for blocking driveways. These changes jeopardize public access to one of Florida’s most treasured beach communities and contradict the values of open coastline enjoyment that so many Florida families and visitors hold dear. Importantly, this surge in visitation to Boca Grande may be largely temporary. Following recent devastating hurricanes, several beaches throughout Southwest Florida have been closed for repairs. This likely displaced many beachgoers to Boca Grande, artificially inflating traffic and parking needs. As other beaches reopen, pressure on Boca Grande will naturally decline, making these drastic long-term restrictions appear disproportionate and premature. Additionally, there are concerns that reduced public access and parking availability may disqualify Boca Grande from future state and federal beach renourishment funding, which often hinges on demonstrable public accessibility. I respectfully urge your leadership and review on the following: 1. Reconsider the removal of public parking between 1st and 19th Streets, preserving equitable beach access for all Floridians—not just permit holders. 2. Reevaluate the three-hour downtown parking restriction, allowing flexibility for families, tourists, and local commerce. 3. Assess the ordinance's impact on future coastal funding eligibility, and share findings transparently with the public. 4. Encourage a collaborative advisory process involving residents, business owners, visitors, and county officials to find a fairer, less exclusionary solution. Governor DeSantis, your continued commitment to protecting Floridians' rights and natural resources is vital. This issue is about more than just parking—it’s about preserving the public's access to Florida’s beaches, a core part of our identity, economy, and freedom. Thank you for your time, leadership, and attention to this matter.

  • Open Englewood Beach Parking Lot and Beach Access Points
To the Honorable Governor, Members of Congress and Senate, the Florida Legislature, and the Charlotte County Administration, We respectfully submit this letter on behalf of the Englewood, Florida, community regarding the prolonged closure of the parking lot and beach access points at Englewood Beach, Chadwick Park. As of today, it has been over seven months since the park was initially closed due to damage from Hurricane Milton, and nearly two months since any visible progress has been made—aside from the limited reopening of a single beach access point and 25 parking spaces at the south end of the park on April 2nd. Since then, there has been no presence of workers, equipment, or materials on-site to suggest that repair efforts are ongoing. We also wish to highlight that all other beach areas north and south of Englewood Beach—including 7 miles of Boca Grande beaches and 5 miles in Venice—have been fully reopened, while this stretch of coastline, measuring approximately 1,500 feet (including a 900ft boardwalk) remains largely inaccessible.  It is believed by many in this community that this disregard and ongoing closure is both intentional and malicious.  Englewood Beach is more than just a stretch of sand and sea—it’s the epicenter of our community. For families, it’s where memories are made: kids learning to swim, grandparents watching sunsets, friends gathering for picnics, and neighbors bonding over morning walks. For young people, it’s a safe and healthy space for recreation and social connection. This is EXTREMELY important as thousands of local kids will be out of school on May 29th and not have this space available to them.  For older residents, it’s a place of peace, reflection, and daily routine. Economically, it supports small businesses, attracts tourism, drives local real estate and sustains local jobs. When access to the beach is restricted, it doesn’t just close a gate—it disrupts the heartbeat of a coastal town and impacts the physical, mental, and financial well-being of all who call Englewood home.  These impacts are reaching a critical point and emergency intervention is needed from you now!    We are urgently requesting immediate intervention and action to open the beach parking lot and beach access points.  We respectfully call upon you—our elected leaders—to advocate on our behalf and ensure that this vital community asset is restored without further delay. Englewood cannot afford to wait any longer.  It should be known that the beach parking lot is clear and access points would only need sand to make access safe.   Respectfully, Englewood Florida Community

  • A CALL TO ACTION:JUSTICE FOR TARASHA BENJAMIN
Selma Teen Tarasha " Pooh" Benjamin vanished without a trace on June 26, 2010. Authourities do suspect foul play. Tarasha left in a madza tribute truck headed to the flea market with neighborhood friend Telisha Givhan. Benjamin was 17 years old when she left and police have claimed there is no new leads in the case. Tarasha is an African American female, 125lb and 17 years old at the time of her disappearance. The police department had claim there is no new leads in the case. But, there is a problem with how authorities has handle Benjamin's case that makes us believe the police knows more than what they are saying. Benjamin's crime scene tells the obvious story---the photos revealed that the crime scene may have been staged by some one linked to law enforcement. The windows and door handles removed. A hair fiber was most likely planted. And a clear hand print was visible on the truck. The police department has not interviewed any of thier current or former police officers in Benjamin's case. There is no reward money offered by the Governor's office and the district attorney had believe that Alabama Bureau Investigation was involved in the investigation, but they are not!!!! • Please help us save the live oak trees & canopies on Rockledge Dr. Rockledge FL
Please use your strength & influence to STOP Brevard county's pursuit of cutting down the live oak trees & their gorgeous canopies on Rockledge Dr. 18 mths ago we were assured by Bevard county they would not pursue cutting or trimming. Please help Brevard County understand alternatives to preserving these gorgeous live oak trees, their canopies & the wildlife they support. Use our tax dollars and direct county's time to solve issues and problems like the flooding issues on Rockledge Dr and help us protect the Indian River Lagoon and so many other serious issues rather than focusing on decimating one of Brevard's most beautiful oak lined roads. Trees do NOT cause accidents; people do. Drunk, speeding & not paying attention. These trees have been standing for hundreds of years. Any accident was cause of the drivers. We have offered multiple options for equipment that can be used to pave or dig that are 9' & 11'. The other fact is the county & the Southbound section 2.5 miles of Rockledge Dr is a 20mph road, no trucks permitted and one of the most scenic & historic roads in all of Florida because of these oaks. Other ways to get involved to help educate the Brevard County Representative that work for us and yet they are not adhering to the communities requests to preserve and protect these trees. : 1) Take action yourself.
