Dear Moveon members, Tanya McDowell is a single African American mother in Conneticut. She has just been used as an example to show parents what happens when they fraudulently fill out public school enrollment forms. In order to make the charges stick and to reduce public support for her, they also picked her up selling drugs and offered her a plea deal of 12 years in prison. While she clearly has made her share of mistakes, our response as a society should be to surround this woman and her child. Give them the services they need, help her keep her child in school, help her find employment. Instead we imprison her and thrust her son into a life of struggling with no parent to advocate and protect him. We turn a blind eye to the heinous criminal and immoral acts of bankers and corporations who ruin our economy, steal from our national resources without paying their fair share in taxes, and and destroy our environment. The leaders of those companies sleep in lavish homes, their children warm, fed, educated. No prosecution and prison time for them. Yet, this single mother trying to gain a free education in which her child is entitled is imprisoned and her and her sons lives destroyed. Shame on our united states, shame on Conneticut who you would think would have learned something about giving support to their community members...

You read that right: Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis must be investigated for human trafficking and for violating federal immigration law. On Wednesday, DeSantis may have violated federal law by using over $600,000 in taxpayer dollars to lure 50 Venezuelan asylum seekers onto a flight to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. When they arrived, many asked, “Where am I?” They were intentionally deceived and told that they would be given housing and jobs, and were put on a plane with nothing but a brochure. It’s absolutely inhumane. Families, including children, were transported across state lines under false pretenses. This was a premeditated effort targeting vulnerable people simply seeking a better life. And it is completely reprehensible. The time to investigate Ron DeSantis is NOW. This is not an isolated incident, either. Republican Governors like Greg Abbott are also cruelly sending migrants across the country. And Republicans across the country have shown no signs of stopping their cruel, anti-immigrant agenda. In fact, after opposing President Biden’s coronavirus recovery package, DeSantis allocated $12 MILLION of interest earnings from the Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund to implement this discriminatory state program which removes and transports undocumented people outside the state of Florida, with no regard to their safety or wellbeing. Massachusetts officials had no idea that Ron DeSantis was sending 50 people either. So when they arrived, they had to walk over two miles to find a community center that could help them.

Let's eliminate the WV motor vehicle inspection! As we drive everyday we see just as many Ohio license plates as we do WV and Ohio does not require vehicle inspections. So why should we be require to have them when driving on the same roads? According to national statistics, only 12-13% percent of vehicle accidents nationally are related to mechanical vehicle failure. We are all aware when something is not right with our vehicle, and if you just want to be safe and have it checked you should have the option of taking to it to a shop for them to inspect. Too many licensed shops are too busy with other work to do inspections they make no money on, which leads to them not wanting to do vehicle inspections. In a situation like mine and many other West Virginians who have a full time job, it is hard to make it to an inspection station when they operate under the same hours as a lot of our work schedules and are closed on Sundays. When I do get the time off to attempt to get a vehicle inspection, I am told by the shops that they do not have time or they are out of stickers. Have you heard this before? If you are a West Virginian that's tired of battling the trouble of getting a WV motor vehicle inspection lets put an end to it! This may also let our state and local law enforcement focus on the real problems causing accidents such as drugs, alcohol, and distracted driving, rather than a sticker on a windshield or some window tint that's hurting nobody.

President Obama: Before bombing Syria or expanding airstrikes in Iraq, seek Congressional approval and U.N. Security Council authorization. Prioritize diplomatic efforts to address the political issues driving the conflict over expanding the use of force. Congress: Insist that President Obama seek an authorization of force before further military escalation in Iraq or Syria, as the Constitution and the War Powers Resolution require him to do. Work to limit military escalation by insisting that any authorization of force have a time limit, so that we don't start another endless war. Limit the geographic scope of any authorization, to stop the war from expanding to other countries without Congress voting to approve or reject the expansion.
