Urge Congress to declare that Trump’s new Coronavirus adviser, Dr. Scott Atlas, is a dangerous quack who must be fired immediately. As reported in The New York Times: - Scott Atlas has questioned the science for wearing masks. - He has pushed against testing people who don't show COVID-19 symptoms, even though we know that people without symptoms can be the biggest spreaders of this pandemic. - He has called for the kind of conservative approach to the pandemic that Sweden has already tried -- to disastrous effect. Scott Atlas is not an epidemiologist nor an infectious disease expert. But he does appear a lot on Fox News. And that’s why Donald Trump likes him. This kind of bogus analysis is killing thousands of people across the United States. Urge Congress to declare that Scott Atlas is a dangerous quack who should not be advising the U.S. response to the pandemic.

Under Trump, Republicans gave a $1.9 trillion tax cut to billionaires who have subsequently gotten over $1 trillion richer during the pandemic. This is unacceptable. This is why we’re asking Democrats in Congress to co-sponsor Senator Warren, Representative Jayapal, and Representative Boyle’s wealth tax bill. This landmark legislation would put a just a two-cent wealth tax on the wealthiest Americans worth more than $50 million, creating $3 trillion in tax revenue that can be used to reinvest in our communities and create opportunities for working families.

A city wide single-use plastic ban starting with straws, drink stirrers, plastic bags, and then moving to to-go containers. The myriad of problems caused by single-use plastic can be mitigated by simply advocating—and legislating—a ban on the consumption. Americans purchase $13 BILLION worth of chocolate each year, but what most people don’t know is that popular chocolate companies like Nestlé and Mars use slave labor from (often trafficked) African children to produce their chocolate products. The chocolate industry has missed deadlines to eliminate child slavery from their cocoa supply chains in 2005, 2008, and 2020. It’s outrageous, unacceptable, and an egregious human rights violation. Being a youth or adult resident of Miami, someone who works in Miami, or a person who owns property in the City of Miami, I realize; Miami ranks last of all high density cities in the entire US in park space per resident; that 4 of 5 Miami Commission districts severely lack parks; that parks add to the quality of life; that parks are proven to be economic generators; that to keep property taxes low, Florida Law provides that developers who add population, should pay for the capital costs of new parks if residents demand it from their elected leaders, instead of property taxes on all property and that Miami taxpayers own very valuable waterfront land and that if that land is to be leased or sold, it must deliver significant benefits for its resident / stockholders beyond lease fees and new taxes. Therefore, I petition Mayor Regalado or any new Mayor and the Miami Commission to take actions immediately to make it possible to collect higher one time Impact Fees on developers so park acreage is actually added to Miami so as to not further deteriorate our park acreage / population ratio as it has severely declined over the last several years; that Miami 21 be changed so parks are protected from being covered with buildings and parking lots. That the leasing or selling of any publicly owned land, especially water front land such as Coconut Grove, Watson Island and Virginia Key must produce substantial public benefit for Miami residents / taxpayers, beyond lease fees and new taxes. Specifically, 100 percent of lease fees or sales dollars or leveraged bond proceeds must be used exclusively for the creation of new parks until such time that there is a park within a ten minute walk of every Miami resident, per the Parks Master Plan. This requires 30 new neighborhood parks in the City of Miami.
