The conditions of Rt 739 during and after any type of winter weather is deplorable and extremely unsafe.

On November 18, 2009, our son Faran Khan, was enjoying himself at a public park practicing the game he loved, cricket. His peaceful practice was interrupted by three men demanding he stop playing near them. With just as much right to use the park as them, Faran choose not to leave. He was then physically confronted by the men and was forced to try to defend himself. When it was all over, Faran was on the ground beaten and viciously stabbed with a tire iron, causing his death and taking him from our family at the age of just twenty-one. Faran's death was ruled a homicide and the men who attacked him were quickly identified. The murder weapon was found with the fingerprints of two of the men. Despite this seeming to be an open and shut case, to this day, only “one” of the three men has even been charged with “any offense”. And the one charged was released after an ineffective prosecution. Although he was charged with 1st degree Murder, his attorney argued that he was only an accomplice and that it was one of the other “uncharged men” who actually did the killing. There is no dispute that Faran was murdered. There is no dispute about who the people who attacked him are. Why have they not all been charged? How can that be justice? Sadly, Faran's choice to stand up for his right to access public space cost him his life. That tragedy has been compounded by the tragic total lack of justice. Please prosecute ALL parties involved in attacking and murdering our son with the same tenacity you would anyone who participated in killing one of your family members because that is what equal protection means.

Oppose Ira Silverstein's SB1278 that wants to expand income tax refund garnishment! Senator Ira Silverstein's (IL-8) latest bad anti-people bill SB1278 could allow debt collectors and creditors in the private sector to go after an individual's tax refund check. Not only can a creditor or debt collector currently garnish a debtor's wages already, but Senator Silverstein wants them to be able to double dip and confiscate taxes refunded for overpaying state taxes as well. It is not just the fact that it is double-dipping payroll garnishment, but this bill would confiscate tax balancing refunds from Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) which serves as a benefit for working people with low to moderate income. The real kicker: the law also allows the debt collector to charge a fee for the garnishment back to the debtor. Who will most likely have a refund coming back? The people who can least afford to have it garnished. EITC is the greatest tool the state has to bring balance to our tax code and goes to low-income families. Senator Silverstein's Bill could confiscate it for debt collectors.

Stop predator insurance companies from dropping the policies of people caught up in the devastation of Hurriblizzard 2012

Last month, ExxonMobil announced plans to merge with Pioneer Natural Resources, which would make it the largest producer of oil and natural gas in the Permian Basin. The acquisition is also predicted to spark similar buyouts as gas and oil companies work to compete. What does that mean? It means Big Oil is about to get even bigger and more powerful, putting profits over mounting demands from the general public and scientists about climate change. We must act now! Tell Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan to investigate and stop Big Oil's dangerous expansion.

The US Government should provide FREE education in the form of online videos. Every academic topic should be thoroughly covered at all levels and in an organized way. This will be huge benefit for students, teachers, and everyone else. This is the cheapest way to make us smarter and more competitive.

Mississippi currently has over a half million citizens who cannot pay for health insurance or medical care. Their resulting health problems affect us all---in lost productivity, higher subsidized emergency care, and increased private insurance premiums. The Affordable Care Act seeks to remedy this situation by allowing states to expand Medicaid coverage with Federal dollars. By accepting this opportunity, MS can cover our lowest-income citizens with cost-efficient health insurance while creating new jobs and increasing state revenue. If Federal dollars are rejected, our Federal income taxes will fund Medicaid expansion in most other states, but not here, and the poor will suffer needlessly. Please help us tell Gov. Bryant and our state legislature that we believe Medicaid expansion is a win-win solution for everybody.
