Texas and nine other states have threatened a lawsuit against the Trump administration if it doesn’t end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) by September 5, 2017. As a Dreamer, I worry for the well-being of myself and 800,000[1] other recipients, as our ability to drive, work, and study are in jeopardy. Tell Governor Raimondo to stand up to the Trump administration and demand that the U.S. Justice Department defend DACA. Our federal delegation must also protect young Rhode Islanders by codifying a permanent solution for Dreamers.

Tell Congress to vote "NO" to funding Trump's Border Wall. While we support reasonable methods to secure our borders, with an ever-growing federal debt of $20.4 TRILLION, we do NOT support the Republican plan to spend $15 Billion (Republican Leadership) or $21.6 Billion (latest DHS estimate) to build a physical barrier along our 2000 mile southern border. First, that cost will ultimately be paid by the American people and not by Mexico. Second, given the terrain of the southern border (mountains, rivers, and canyons), the Wall cannot be continuous, and, according to experts, it will be ineffective as it can be breached by those going under, over, or around it, particularly in the isolated and unpopulated areas that constitute over 2/3 of its 2000 mile length.

I oppose Virginia House Bill 2000 because it will likely require Virginia state and local police to enforce federal immigration law, in part, by identifying and detaining local immigrant residents for possible deportation. Virginia already has some of the strictest laws in the nation regarding the enforcement of federal immigration law (including status checks for those arrested and a presumption against bail if a detainer has been placed on an immigrant accused of violent crime). Why should our state and local law enforcement, which already is fully occupied with the responsibilities assigned it by our local governments, bear the burden of enforcing federal law? And why should the citizens of Virginia pay for it? HB 2000 will actually make our communities less safe and interfere with local law enforcement as immigrant crime witnesses and immigrants who ordinarily would offer information to assist our police may actually avoid police contact for fear of questions about their status.

America's endless wars are making us less safe, causing tremendous loss of life, and fueling historic instability. Commit to end these wars in your first 100 days in office by bringing all US troops home from Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.

We should end the practice of anonymous shell companies -- this common tool for dodging taxes is also used by criminals like narco-traffickers to launder money, as well as to cover up all kinds of criminal activity. Currently, law enforcement seizes $0.25 for every $100 of drug money flowing out of the country. It's just too easy to move the money. That makes these drugs, which are killing people in Massachusetts nearly every day, cheaper on the street and more profitable for the kingpins. We must do everything in our power to stop the flow of cheap opioids that takes such a toll on the Commonwealth and our communities. Lend your public support to the Incorporation Transparency and Law Enforcement Assistance Act, and take action to stop anonymous companies from being formed here in Massachusetts.
