Every time a presidential primary or general election vote is cast, voters should get a tracking receipt or number so that they can personally check online or through an automated voice telephone system that somehow their vote hasn't been lost or somehow misdirected to another candidate. Impossible, you say? How about the IRS? How about the DMV? How about the Postal Service? Are our tax returns, driver license/ID information, medical records or even a piece of mail more important than our vote? That information is all tracked in the IT world. The one item guaranteed us in the Constitution is given lower priority! Let's stop accepting this shadowy process of voting and bring it out into the light of day.

We oppose any cuts to "non-classroom support services," including those at the elementary schools, middle schools, and BHS. Library staff are vital.

We the undersigned do not support the Salmon River Central Board of Education extending the current Superintendent Jane Collins, contract beyond June, 2015. Ms. Collins has systematically mis-managed, divided and exploited the school system during her term.

On July 6, 2013, a law will go in effect which House Bill 2 will clarify the open carry law, which should not be a law. This law expresses a concern for Law Enforcement, business owners, and most of all, the citizens of the state of Mississippi. The open carry law is a very controversial and disturbing law that put many citizens in the fear of increased crime. Four people in a grocery store or bank carry a gun is not a good look and can create confusion. Many law enforcement agencies will face confusion when arriving to crime scenes that consist of bystanders who are carrying guns as well. This situation can increase the chances of someone getting hurt. This Law also will increase 911 calls. Just because an individual is authorized to carry a gun, does not mean that he or she is properly trained. Situations may occur when an offender may take a gun from a victim and use his or her own gun against them. Law enforcement will not be able to identify every single person carrying a weapon and felons may take advantage of this as well. This open carry law is not a very smart move and should be banned in order to protect the state of Mississippi from the rise of crime in its community, businesses, public areas, and residential areas.

Raise the poverty threshold to better reflect the needs of an impoverished family.

There is a refugee crisis happening right now, and the U.S. needs to show leadership and kindness by accepting these refugees from Syria and elsewhere. Germany is accepting 800,000 refugees while we are only accepting in the few thousands. We have the wealth to do it, so let's do it!
