Since then, Republicans across the country have raced to implement new restrictive laws that would do exactly what the Voting Rights Act was meant to protect. But now, there's a chance to stop that. Late last week, Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and John Conyers (D-MI) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) introduced new legislation—the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014—that would strengthen the Voting Rights Act. This bill isn't perfect but is the best vehicle we have for restoring the rights struck down by the Supreme Court last year. We ask US Representative Donald Payne to lead the way in restoring universal suffrage by cosponsoring a new Voting Rights Act that ensures every citizen is given unencumbered access to the vote.

We need to request the restart of the planning of an electric train system, just like Metro Rail in Miami, to be build across Florida, uniting Miami, Naple, Fort Mayers, Sarasota, Tampa, Orlando and all East Florida cities in a continue loop. We have plenty of power plants to energice the train. This train would increase the flow of workers across cities as well as turists. I would recommend running the Miami to Naples run over the existing I75 center lane. That way no new Everglades land is damage. Gov. Quinn: don't frack us! Say "no" to unenforceable, inadequate fracking regulations. HB2615 will not protect Illinois. The deceptive fracking industry will probably work around many of the regulations when they encounter the feeble enforcement in this state. There are only 12 regulators at the IDNR to oversee thousands of dangerous fracking wells, so enforcement will be next to impossible. And HB2615 has too many gaping holes in it to protect Illinois: No local control, no limits on or prioritization of the use of our precious water, no real air pollution protections, no worker safety. Seismic activity is not even considered, the toxic flowback from the wells will not be handled as hazardous waste, and the setbacks still put our children and families at risk. HB2615 will not protect us from spills, blowouts, water contamination, health effects or possibly even earthquakes. New York State is extending their 5-year moratorium for another 2 years in order to study the dangerous effects of fracking. Illinois residents deserve that same kind of due diligence by their lawmakers and the government. We deserve a moratorium on fracking and an investigative task force, HB3086 and SB1418. Let's not frack our way into a worsening climate crisis. Let's invest in our clean, green, energy future instead of fracking our farmland!

Each year millions of Medicare beneficiaries are asked to choose a new Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan, remain with their current plan, or pay a penalty for failing to enroll in Medicare Part D. I am quite certain that President Obama, Speaker Boehner, or Senate President Harry Reid have not engaged in this process, sitting down to their computers, entering the names of their medications, the dosage, and the number of times a day they take the medication, then waiting for their computer to list the hundreds of Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans from which they must choose the best one. Each plan has preferred pharmacies and each drug price differs from one pharmacy to another. When a beneficiary's drug costs reaches $2970, the beneficiary must pay the the negotiated percentage for their medication until the beneficiary has out-of-pocket costs of $4750. Then catastrophic coverage will commence and the beneficiary cost will be small.. Because each plan has a different deductible, copay, and coinsurance, and the prescribed drug may or may not be on the formulary, or may be a Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, Tier 4 or Tier 5, the cost of each drug plan will differ substantially and the beneficiary must check with each plan to inquire about drug costs. Of course the beneficiary will be given a premium and an estimated drug cost. The beneficiary will be told that drug prices change from one day to the next and from one pharmacy to the next. Our seniors are often remaining on a plan that does not meet their needs because they do not know which plan is best. Many are foregoing their prescribed drugs because their drug is not on the Prescription Drug Plan's Formulary or the copay and coinsurance are too costly. These seniors grow more ill over time, developing serious conditions with serious consequences like the loss of a limb, the need for an organ transplant, wounds that will not heal - all consequences of a single untreated case of diabetes. Call, write, and email President Obama, Speaker Boehner, Senator Harry Reid and your Senators and Representatives and demand a Single Payer System. Put an end to this nightmare experience for our seniors. Put an end to the high cost of Medicare Part D Prescription Drugs. Demand a Single Payer System. Demand that our Senators, Representatives and President and all government employees participate in the similar Prescription Drug Program and experience what our seniors experience. Our seniors are given a window of time from October 15 to December 7 to change their Prescription Drug Plan each year. Let's ask our government officials to appreciate the experience annually just as our seniors do or Fix it NOW!
