Dear Senator King, Over the years, you have run on a Republican platform and as a Republican educator in your district, I have supported you. You have spoken out against wasteful State spending, and I have supported you. Now you support SB 6442, which allows the State to take over the health care benefit plans for thousands of public education employees, this goes against my beliefs and values. The state takeover will cost taxpayers millions of dollars and it abandons a system which provides for individual choice. The current system costs less and provides more than the government-provided PEBB plan for state employees, which includes legislators. The current PEBB plan created by the state HCA costs $82 more than the State currently provides for K-12 educators. Supporting this bill goes against values that you have supported and which I, as a Republican school employee and voter, believed you would support. I urge you to vote against SB6442

I'm joining thousands of other people with disabilities in California, asking you to reject the State Architect staff's so-called emergency proposals, and vote No on reducing accessibility requirements this week, in particular items 2 and 7 on your agenda. Please do not permit the office of the State Architect to break its commitment to preserve existing access. 1. Do Not Reduce Accessibility in Bathrooms. Item 2 [1117B.5.7] on your agenda would allow builders a much sloppier range of bathroom toilet placement. It takes both strength and skill to transfer from a wheelchair to a toilet within a small space. The State Architect's proposed lesser standard is supported by no ergonomic studies. California standards have been in use successfully for decades. The proposed two inch variation is much more than standard construction practices require. Any competent contractor can build facilities within the current administrative requirement (one inch). Do not reduce accessibility that has been in place in California for decades! Do Not Allow 'Path-of-Travel Exceptions in Perpetuity. Please vote on Item 7 [1134B.2.1], which would effectively provide an exception, in perpetuity, from now-required upgrades to restrooms and drinking fountains. This loophole is large enough to allow even huge million-dollar alteration projects to provide no accessibility updates in those areas. California's long-held commitment is to provide access to seniors and people with disabilities in our communities in two ways: full accessibility in all new buildings, and gradually upgraded access in existing buildings as they are renovated. Please do not vote to degrade this time-tested public policy. 3. Do not adopt any proposal this week as an 'emergency.' No event has created any emergency. The staff are asserting a political emergency to short-circuit the normal process of public review, discussion, and input. 4. Please ask the governor to fill the vacant Disability seat on the Commission. Where is our place at the table? Then tell the State Architect – with your vote – to follow normal regulatory process, and tell the State Architect to keep his promise not to reduce California's pioneering commitment to its citizens with disabilities. From: The Professional Association of Day care Directors We, the undersigned, are opposed to the Early Learn RFP in it's current form. We raise the following seven areas of concern: (1) the timeframe for the RFP and implementation of Early Learn (2) the 6.7% provider contribution (3) unresolved labor and collective bargaining issues (4) a lack of a unified program assessment (5) the impact on family child care networks (no technical supports) (6) the lack of a provision for health insurance (7) and the lack of a demonstration project with an evaluative component on Early Learn. We are calling for the withdrawal of the Early Learn RFP until these issues are addressed. Agencies must have a reasonable opportunity to prepare for such a major change in our Child Care System and a study must be conducted to determine the impact of these changes.

Over the last 20 years, while Blaine County public school enrollment has increased 17% and the number of principals have increased 25%, SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS HAVE RISEN 300%. Please begin our essential belt-tightening at the top. Vote no on the proposal to add two MORE administrative positions to our district.

Governor Susana Martinez rejected at least $120 million in Federal Medicaid money that would have flowed into that program if she hadn’t vetoed a sensible, thoroughly-vetted “provider fee” that the Hospital Association had voluntarily put on the table.

The first four weeks of the Trump administration have raised many concerns about domestic and foreign policy and how Congress will protect all Americans from the radical Trump agenda.
