Stop the furloughs If you or anyone else you know is getting furloughed, commit to voting against the incumbent during the next election. This effects people regardless of political affiliation. The furloughs are happening because washington can't get over their petty squabbling. Let your politicians know that this is not acceptable.

Dear STATE REPRESENTATIVE, Mr. President, Thousands of elderly Americans are counting on you to do the right thing. Sequestration has slashed millions of dollars in funding to Meals on Wheels organizations across the country and as a result scores of frail, homebound senior citizens are being denied home-delivered meals. In many cases, those healthy lunches were the only nutritious food an older adult might eat all day. Regardless of one's political beliefs, denying life-sustaining services to the elderly, many of whom are military veterans, is wrong. Providing nutritious meals to older adults who are at-risk of being malnourished should be a top priority. I urge you to vote to restore federal funding for Meals on Wheels organizations. Stand up for Medicare, Social Security. Stop senseless wars.

Guns are protected by the Second Amendment, Bullets are not; let’s use licensed psychiatrist to evaluate and to write a prescription for bullets. Let’s attack this epidemic of gun violence from the back end using medical professionals to evaluate possible homicidal maniacs. I know the Gun Lobby is too strong; and the Second Amendment to engrained into our culture to defeat. Let’s attack this issue from the back end. I live in New Jersey, if you wish to purchase a hypodermic needle here; you need a doctor’s prescription. That would include hypodermics for insulin, hypodermics to inject glue under carpets and linoleum; and hypodermics to inject flavoring into beef, turkey, chicken, or ham. If we were to require the purchase of bullets by prescription by licensed psychiatrist, we would use systems that are already in existence, by the best professionals able to judge the mental stabilization of their patient. We would not need additional officers in schools; we would not need to arm teachers; we would not need the expense of metal detectors; but most importantly; we would not need to fight the NRA. People could own guns; we would not infringe on their Second Amendment Rights. We would only limit those who could buy bullets; after a psychiatrist evaluation. The Second Amendment is never touched. It’s a Win-Win for everybody. Let’s face it, a gun without bullets is only a club. Let the NRA have its way with guns; let’s just restrict the bullets to the crazies. The expense and the evaluation should curb gun violence dramatically without infringing on Constitutional Rights.

Giving his first public comments since the latest report on his sordid 2000 divorce proceedings -- which revealed that he had supported two abortions for his then-wife -- the self-proclaimed staunchly anti-abortion DesJarlais suggested that he regretted his actions but didn't believe they warranted his resignation, especially after his recent reelection victory. Tennessee Gov. said that DesJarlais should consider how effectively he can represent his district while serving under such scrutiny. If he (Rep. Scott DesJarlais (TN-4)) ran on the platform of Pro-Life, then he should be held accountable for his actions and resign - now!

Just like their disastrous shutdown of the federal government, Republican Senators are making a mockery of their constitutional responsibilities by trying to prevent the proper staffing of the judiciary with qualified judges. Judge Robert Wilkins and fellow D.C. Circuit nominees Patricia Millett and Nina Pillard have all been filibustered by the Senate in recent weeks. Despite the fact that these nominees had the support of a majority in the United States Senate, their nominations were blocked after the Republican minority took advantage of the rules once again. Colorado, like the rest of the nation, needs the political games in the Senate to end. Judicial nominees deserve simple yes or no votes. We support rules reform in the Senate to stop right-wing obstruction against judicial appointments.

Pricing That Tells the Truth • Pricing that tells the truth is when the overall, long term costs of goods, services and production methods - social and environmental health, pollution, disposal, security/military and government subsidy - is reflected short term in the upfront cost. • As a prime example, because every year in America coal mining accidents kill and injure miners, its fine particle pollution causes 24,000 premature deaths, 38,200 non-fatal heart attacks and 10’s of 1000’s of hospital visits and asthma attacks, its mercury pollution exposes 100,000 to 200,000 children to dangerous levels in the womb, its acid rain and waste from mountaintop removal and mining poisons 1000’s of America’s lakes, streams, and community water supplies, not to mention its huge contribution to global warming, coal would become prohibitively more expensive than solar and wind as they don't have a single one of these enormous costs. • With many of the same costs but in different proportions, oil, gas and nuclear would be more expensive than solar and wind, toxic chemical-laden factory farm food more expensive than organic food, cancer-causing products more expensive than safer alternatives, single use more expensive than reusable and industrially recyclable more expensive than home compostable, Nature’s recycling. • The way to make this truly, overall realistic and responsible pricing happen economy-wide is in an open, transparent program, our scientific community, using the new science of industrial ecology’s lifecycle cost assessments (LCA’s), would calculate these costs which in large part act as huge, unacknowledged taxes on society and huge, deferred taxes on our children. • Making these backdoor taxes clear and visible, Real Cost-Pollution Prevention (RCPP) taxes on the social and environmental costs of all major industrial ingredients, inputs, services, construction and production methods would increase in predictable increments and be levied at the most appropriate points of extraction, manufacturing, importation and/or sales. • Their predictability will give consumers, businesses, investors and governments the time and certainty to best plan how to reduce pollution and this is the Game-Changer that uses the most powerful economic incentive of all – making a profit.: • Reducing and eventually eliminating pollution (and thus reducing and eventually eliminating ones RCPP taxes!) becomes more profitable than polluting! • Continually Cleaner and Safer will under price and replace Dirty and Dangerous while profiting at everyone else’s expense, aka privatization of profit and socialization of cost will no longer be profitable. • In short, Real Cost-Benefit Pricing is not only truly realistic, morally, ecologically and economically honest and responsible, it’s also fiscally conservative – a dollar of pollution prevention tax now is far cheaper than higher, even catastrophic costs to our children down the road. Rebating RCPP Taxes to the Public To Accelerate the Green Recovery • The best way to jump start and accelerate the creation of millions of new green jobs and the greening of America's economy is as follows. • Deposit 25% of RCPP taxes monthly into the bank accounts of all adults who filed, paid taxes but earned less than $250,000 the previous year. This would be to help America's majority buy these ever eco-friendlier goods and services as well as to cushion them from initially, higher, economy-wide pricing.
