Recognizing the need for improved gun control and the challenges of implementing those laws, please propose and support a simple new amendment that, without eliminating the second amendment, articulates the following three goals. 1) codifies the process of firearm sales and background checks, which could also include waiting periods. 2) codifies the appropriate storage and possession of firearms. 3) requires renewable safety and handling certification which includes mental health assessment in order to purchase ammunition. These are reasonable precautions which presented within the framework of the constitution does not challenge the constitution. These changes would not revoke any existing rights while still implementing common sense solutions to keep guns out of the hands of irresponsible individuals. It is unrealistic to eliminate all gun violence, nor is it realistic to eliminate guns and people's perceived need for arms. An amendment also circumvents the gun lobby's attempts to incapacitate legislation either through judicial means or legislative loopholes. Using a simple amendment Implementation of this amendment would both strengthen and modernize the second amendment in a way that won't be perverted by special interests.

Separate Hemp from Marijuana and allow it to be grown and processed for paper, textiles, bio-fuel and nutritional oil, to name a few. Recognize Hemp as non-psychoactive and write legislation legalizing it for industrial capitalization similar to Canada's policies.

I was shocked recently as I tried to purchase eTextbooks for the upcoming college semester. After carrying around what feels like a 100lbs of textbooks around everyday, trying to maneuver a stuffed-to-the-hilt backpack up and down curbs, stairs, and narrow rows of desks, I decided there had to be a better way. I thought I had it all figured out when I purchased a well-known brand name eReader. Excited that I would cut down on the amount of weight I had to carry and the amount of natural resources I would waste, I quickly set out visiting top name websites for eTextbook downloads. It turns out that out of the 7 textbooks I was looking for not one of them was available to purchase as an eTextbook. I could rent them for 180 days at near cost of purchasing them as a new paper copy or I could purchase them as a paper copy for a bit more. The cheapest eTextbook rental was $85 (many were only dollars less than their paper counterparts), but I prefer to own my books to use as reference down the line, and I could buy the same $85 180 day eTextbook rental for $100+ and have it forever to refer back to when writing research papers or further investigating a subject. After much frustration I finally contacted one of these websites to ask why I couldn't own my eTextbook and they clued me in. Publishers decide if Textbooks come in e-versions and the same Publishers decide if these eTextbooks are available for purchase or rent. It is less cost effective for students to rent an eTextbook but the profit is huge for Publishers who already are saving on production and personell costs. There is no reason for Publishers to bar textbook sellers from selling eTextbooks instead of renting them, their actions are unfair to students who already struggle to cover the living and college costs in today's economy, and ridiculously greedy given the already high cost of eTextbook rentals. Sign my petition and ask textbook publishers to do the right thing and give college students full access to the books they need and the books they pay for.

We urge the Legislators and Govenor of California to create a state-wide proposition asking the electorate to eliminate the real estate tax breaks for commercial properties that was created as part of Prop 13. All owner occupied residences would be exempt for any changes. The new found monies should fund public schools.

In 2013, the House will be in session for a grand total of 126 days." Assuming they work 10 hour days, it represents 1260 hours per year. Based on an average salary of $174,000, this represents $138 per hour. It's time to reconsider term limits or an incentive based system that promotes a full "productive" work schedule with "results" or go back to a per diem (daily payment) while in session. Write or email your representative and demand that they consider equal pay for equal work.
