This petition is in response to Congress not passing or approving the budget. It is totally ridiculous that Congress thinks it is okay to let the government shut down just to try and prohibit millions of Americans from receiving healthcare benefits. Since Congress thinks so little of the American people that saw them as capable of handling the country's business, and thought they would put the country's best interest ahead of their political interest, we should treat them with the same regard. The people should speak by calling for Congress to work for free for the next year, let them purchase their own healthcare benefits, and set up their retirement plans to match that of the average American. 1. Benefits that match your time put in on the job. 2. Salary matches experience. 3. They should not get so many vacations. Treat them like the average American and see how many will want the job after these changes.

We are in the midst of the greatest transfer of wealth to a scarce few individuals and banks, all of it being done within the boundaries of laws that the bankers themselves have either written or paid well to have written. Glass-Steagall prevented this egregious behavior and must be reinstated.

Before the United States engages in further military action, I want you to answer my question: My question is just this: Why don't we try waging all-out peace instead of war? Until we wage all-out peace, I fear we will just continue to find reasons and enemies to fight wars. Peace is less costly in both blood and treasure and is its own reward.

Cornell Law School has invited the executive director of a known hate group to speak on campus this Friday, October 5. Mark Krikorian is the leader of the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that puts out junk science targeting immigrants. Please tell Cornell that hate is NOT welcome on campus.

As my Colorado Senator or Representative, I'm asking you to VOTE to send the Colorado Health Care Cooperative to the voters of Colorado as a referred measure on November 5, 2013. It's our Health and our Health Care! We Coloradans have the right to make the decision for ourselves at the ballot box!

I am starting this petition because I believe Rhode Island is one of the very few states that does not approve of conjugal/family visits. I believe if you are in a Maximum prison serving anywhere from 5 years to life in prison, they deserve to have these types of visits.

As South Berkeley residents and other concerned members of the community, we demand that the proposed development at 2902 Adeline St include the following community benefits in order to mitigate the negative impacts of the project: 1. Minimum 40% affordable housing, including extremely-low, very-low, and low income units, and family-sized units to maintain the diversity of families who live here. 2. 5% rent proceeds dedicated to community-supporting nonprofits in South Berkeley. 3. Parking spaces for 85% of the units to reduce the impact of parking on neighborhood. 4. Four story building height in compliance with existing codes. 5. Green and safe construction standards. 6. Priority for rehousing displaced South Berkeley residents and hiring local labor.

Each year, 6.3 million children under the age of 5 die from preventable causes. Another 800 women die every day from complications during pregnancy and childbirth. In the last two decades, the world has achieved a 49% reduction in the number of children who die before the age of 5. We have the tools and know-how to bring an end to those preventable deaths. Investing in maternal and child health reduces poverty, stimulates economic growth, and most importantly, saves lives. Sens. Durbin and Kirk, we urge you to cosponsor the Accelerating Action in Maternal and Child Health. If enacted, we could save the lives of 15 million children and 600,000 mothers by 2020.

We urge you to put a 5 year moratorium on fracking while we get all of the necessary facts to make an educated decision on whether or not to allow fracking in our communities. We believe that fracking poses a threat to public health, safety and our property values and that cannot be ignored. There is so much at stake. We are putting public health, safety, property values and our water at risk by acting before conclusive information can be gathered on the impacts of fracking. Please do not act rashly with disregard for the possible long-term consequences. Let's get the facts before we frack. Please use your authority to protect the citizens of Fort Collins by a vote to enact a 5 year fracking moratorium today.
