  • END HEALTH CARE CRISIS IN TEXAS - EXPAND MEDICAID
Texas is facing a health care crisis, and needs your help. Working on the front lines of health care, you see the problems every day: millions in our state are uninsured, and our hospitals cannot, and would not, turn anyone away because they cannot pay. So, we are left with the burden of uncompensated care, which further strains already depleted resources and the uninsured are left with a broken system that forces them to delay care and end up sicker. But there is a solution. By opting to expand Medicaid coverage, Texas will receive federal funds to help cover many of the 6.2 million uninsured in our state. We desperately need these funds to keep up with the health care needs of our community.

  • Support the Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act
Congress needs to support the Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act (S. 1454 and H.R. 2969 ), which would end the 36 month limit of Medicare coverage for the required anti-rejection medications needed by kidney transplant recipients. If recipients are unable to afford their medications (after the 36 month limit) they will likely lose their "new" kidney and go on dialysis. The annual estimated cost for the meds is approximately $24,000, compared to the annual estimated cost for dialysis of approximately $80,000. The New England Journal of Medicine reported a study that Medicare would realize a savings of $200 million a year if lifetime drugs were provided instead of dialysis! Where is common sense when it comes to the annual savings in those projections?? After 10+ years of this proposal stalling out in committee, lawmakers need to take action immediately to change this 36 month limit! It is not sound public policy or cost effective for Medicare to cover a kidney transplant and then stop immunosuppressive coverage after 36 months — which can, and all too often does, lead to someone rejecting/losing the transplanted kidney because they cannot afford their medicine. The hope is that recipients will have private insurance after the 36 months, but other studies indicate that 70% of the time this is not the reality. Although Medicare will cover the meds for only a 36 month limit, they will pay for dialysis for lifetime!? The cost savings of removing the 36 month limit makes more sense than paying for a lifetime of dialysis without exception. Even if the recipient has private insurance, the proposal could include the rule that "other" insurance would be primary before Medicare would assist with the cost. Please support this drive, share the information publicly, and let's get the word out that Congress needs to change this NOW!

  • NO Smart Meters!
Say NO to the forced installation (and/or extortion fee of $20/mo) of the smart meters, as they are an invasion of privacy and a safety hazzard. They could be hacked. Customers' privacy and safety are jeapordized by these snooping devices. By definition, these are wiretapping devices, monitoring, gathering and transmitting customers' personal information to unkown, unseen parties.

  • A real story of a victim of Dubai
Inhumane and Discriminating law of Dubai (U.A.E) for Tuberculosis Patients My name is Charanjeet Singh, an Indian national and a former resident of U.A.E. March 2013 I was suspected with old tuberculosis by D.H.A (Dubai Health Authority) and was deported immediately. Many others are getting deported everyday just due to a scar in their lungs; Dubai calls it as Old T.B scar! March 4th i went for medical test and after 18 day i.e. on 22nd at al Muhaisna medical centre D.H.A declared i have old T.B doubtfulness, since i have a scar in my .They said I had T.B in the past, perhaps when I was born at that time, you might be unaware. Neither me while working and staying in my home country, nor my parents had any T.B infection in their lifetime. 2 times i had skin test (Mantoux) test and both time it was Negative, first test at Dubai when i saw nurse writing on my card as negative and 2nd time one at A.I.I.M.S. I went to A.I.I.M.S hospital at New Delhi and done all my checkups i.e. skin test (Mantoux), chest x-ray, blood test, 3 times sputum test and a chest C.T scan too on special advise by senior doctor to have a close look at the scar, and on that basis they did issued me the Certificate stating that I do not have any active T.B. Senior doctors (A.I.I.M.S) asked me why did they deported you when there is no sign of T.B in our body? D.H.A does guess work on T.B on the basis of mere x.ray film. Telling you the fact as it is! I really felt humiliation from U.A.E and felt depressed about this brutal and outdated law of deporting the patients just like a prisoner after he completes his punishment. I never expected this kind of behavior from U.A.E as happened with me. D.H.A was not ready to give me anything about my sickness in written! Was something concealed from me?? They might have Personal laws! Present circumstances reminds me the malpractice of untouchability existed 5 decades ago, where in an individual was deliberately excluded from social interaction permanently. Remove the sickness from U.A.E instead of removing sick. If Government is really scared from heart to help these patients then at least they should not treat them like prisoners, sent back to their home country with permanent ban to enter U.A.E just because of a small scar. Assuming the current scenario in the future, i will never suggest any citizen of my country to work and visit U.A.E whether they provide double pay of what your are getting in your home country. Finally, they will be the culprit if they still go and get kicked in case they are sick with T.B. in the mid of their growing career just and just because of U.A.E’s adamant laws. Disease may happen to anyone at any time don’t know what would be the emotional cause behind that disease. Today it’s my turn; tomorrow could be the ignoring readers from different countries!! Your support will be highly appreciated to write something for this moral cause! (Charanjeet Singh) Email: [email protected] Mob: +91 9560728263 New Delhi [India]

  • Keep Solar Rebates!
Massachusetts may eliminate solar rebates and instead subsidize Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs). SRECs are questionable since they are a license to dump carbon. One person with solar photovoltaic (PV) calls SRECs “indulgences” and refuses to sell them. To end solar rebates would badly hurt Solarize Mass. If you want to achieve 1,600 megawatts of installed solar PV in Mass. by 2020, please don’t end solar rebates and don’t subsidize SRECs.

  • Citizen Action, In Response To Non-Action
Addressed to All Acting Representatives and Senators: We ask that all salaries being paid to our elected representatives in Washington D.C., be withheld, beginning January 1, 2013 until comprehensive action is taken concerning an extensive, bi-partisan plan involving fiscal responsibility. The American People, we, the tax payers who pay these salaries, will no longer be held hostage by incompetence, arrogance and ignorance.
