  • Investors in Herakles Farms: Stop Funding Destruction in Africa
The Herakles Farms palm oil project in Cameroon is the wrong project in the wrong place. If it is not stopped, it will cause widespread social and environmental damage in an area of great biodiversity sandwiched between protected areas and national parks. It will destroy natural forests and take away the livelihoods of communities reliant on those forests.

  • Paul Vallas is a horrible choice for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois
Vallas' accomplishments in Chicago, New Orleans, and Philadelphia were pretty much the privatizing of schools, the reduction of public accountability, and the undermining of strong unions. And now he's in Haiti working his magic "fixing" the lives of even poorer, young people. I want Governor Quinn to continue to be my governor. I have absolutely no problem signing a petition for Quinn, but I'd hesitate signing a petition with Vallas on it. One stroke or heart attack and we would have Governor Vallas and Mayor Emanuel? No, no, no. Governor Quinn should choose a running mate who will make Illinois a better state to live in for everyone, not just for a few wealthy individuals.

  • Repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act of 2005
Gun violence is out of control. Citizens should be able to sue gun manufacturers and sellers for injury or death of their loved ones, as was the case before 2005 congressional action. We have done NOTHING to improve gun safety regulations. So it's time to stop hiding behind National Rifle Association and start ACTING. Repeal this act!

  • Connecticut's policy of choice does not extend to Medicaid patients
On March 1, 2015, The Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) told dentists "Medicaid will not pay for composite restorations in the molar teeth regardless of whether the practice markets itself as 'amalgam-free.'" This policy forbids CHOICE for MEDICAID patients even though the consumer right to choose is not only a policy of the State of Connecticut but also of the dental profession at large. This separate and unequal practice has no place in our society! We support an end to the requirement that Medicaid patients receive mercury-based fillings. The right to be free from harm is a human right that should apply to EVERYONE!
