A recent exposé by the New York Times found that nail salon workers are subject to horrific work conditions, wage theft and abuse. New Jersey must join New York in taking emergency measures to protect nail salon workers.

The US Constitution guarantees freedom of religion. The enacting of "religious freedom" bills is unnecessary. These bills open the door for state protection of discrimination. There is no place for state sanctioned discrimination against individuals or groups in the United States of America.

Congress must pass a new War Powers Resolution to prevent presidents from launching unauthorized military action and escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Do not vote on a new Supreme Court Justice until the new Congress and President is sworn into office.

To U.S. House of Representatives: Please cosponsor H.R. 2529, the “Richard G. Lugar and Ellen O. Tauscher Act to Maintain Limits on Russian Nuclear Forces”. Among other things, this bill expresses the Sense of Congress that the United States should seek to extend the New START Treaty, so long as Russia remains in compliance. Treaties like New START have made the world a safer place. Please work to ensure we don’t turn back the clock on nonproliferation.

The conspiracy theories that One America News (OAN) spreads day after day have had harmful real-life impacts – from the deadly January 6th insurrection to the widespread voter suppression campaign being spearheaded by far-right operatives in states across the country. By removing OAN from DirecTV, AT&T has taken a big step to combat this dangerous disinformation. Now, we urge AT&T to finish what it has started – and sever all financial and business ties with OAN.

We urge you to bring transparency to New York’s judicial system by allowing cameras in courtrooms. Justice must be accessible to the public, not hidden behind closed doors. Many other states, including California, Florida, and Texas, already permit cameras in courtrooms, allowing citizens to witness and understand how justice is served. New Yorkers deserve the same transparency in our legal system.  By supporting legislation and policies to allow cameras in courtrooms, you can ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done. Transparency builds trust, promotes accountability, and strengthens our democracy. We urge you to take immediate action to bring New York in line with other states and make our courtrooms accessible to the people they serve.

I support diplomacy with Iran. I’m disappointed that Senator-elect Peters is calling for new sanctions that would violate the interim agreement and kill the talks. I urge Senator-elect Peters to change his position and support diplomacy.

When reporting on Palestine/Israel, the mainstream American media consistently centers Israeli voices, as it has for decades. In omitting Palestinian voices, histories, and stories—while uncritically repeating the Israeli government’s narratives and propoganda—the U.S. media is complicit in Israel’s ongoing campaign of violence and apartheid. The reporting on Israel’s latest assault on Gaza—which used passive language to discuss the the Israeli military’s murder of Palestinian civilians, including children, and repeated Prime Minister Netanyahu’s talking points—made the danger of this one-sided coverage clear. It must end now. The media should not be a mouthpiece for ANY government, much less one charged with apartheid. We demand the following from national news media: - Stop using the passive voice when describing violence by the Israeli government, which deflects Israel’s accountability for killing or harming Palestinians; - Include proper context when reporting on Palestine and Israel. Thic could entail citing the history of Israel’s forced displacement of Palestinians, the ongoing violations of international law, the violence Palestinians face on a daily basis—beyond the horrific bombings that most frequently capture media attention—and the clear imbalance of powe and resources; and - Center Palestinian narratives and ensure that reporters are speaking to Palestinians to share their own stories.
