Stop 50,000 republicans from patrolling voters in key states!
Block the Republican proposal to place 50,000 Republicans to patrol voting stations in key states. Here is a summary of what they intend to do:
New York Times: “Six months before a presidential election in which turnout could matter more than persuasion, the Republican Party, the Trump campaign, and conservative activists are mounting an aggressive national effort to shape who gets to vote in November — and whose ballots are counted.”
“The Republican program, which has gained steam in recent weeks, envisions recruiting up to 50,000 volunteers in 15 key states to monitor polling places and challenge ballots and voters deemed suspicious. That is part of a $20 million plan that also allots millions to challenge lawsuits by Democrats and voting-rights advocates seeking to loosen state restrictions on balloting. The party and its allies also intend to use advertising, the internet, and President Trump’s command of the airwaves to cast Democrats as agents of election theft.”
Why is this important?
I strongly believe, based on strong evidence, that our current administration is intent on destroying our constitutional rights, our freedom, and the civil rights of people of color and immigrants.
Allowing 50,000 Republicans to patrol voting stations in key states and turn away anyone they suspect might be suspicious, coupled with a widespread propaganda campaign about Democrats as agents of election theft, is outrageous. This is a blatant attempt at voter suppression to tilt the election in their favor. This will mainly affect voters of color and immigrants, and probably anyone who "appears" to be a Democrat or liberal to them. It is likely that the patrollers will fabricate any excuse to turn voters away and make it impossible for them to contest it.
This action is further proof that the Trump administration and his GOP supporters will stop at NOTHING to make sure he wins a second term. It confirms the entrenched corruption of this administration and its attempt to dismantle democracy, civil rights, and the right to vote unless the vote is in their favor. We cannot afford a second Trump term; it will be a catastrophic event for this country and the world.
