Stop the needles-keep our parks safe!

To our city officials!!!!

We, the concerned residents of District 4, are writing to address the pressing issue of cleanliness and safety at Castle Park. This beloved community space has become increasingly neglected, leading to a decline in its overall condition and usability. We believe that immediate action is necessary to restore Castle Park to a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment for all community members.

City Clean-Up: We propose a city-sponsored clean-up initiative at Castle Park. This initiative would involve:

1. **Organized Clean-Up Days:** Collaborating with local organizations, schools, and community groups to host regular clean-up events to engage residents in taking pride in their park.
2. **Waste Management Improvement:** Increasing the number of trash and recycling bins throughout the park and ensuring regular collection to prevent litter accumulation.
3. **Educational Campaigns:** Launching awareness programs about the importance of keeping the park clean and encouraging responsible disposal of waste.

**Increased Police Patrolling:**
In addition to the clean-up efforts, we urge the city to enhance safety measures within Castle Park by:

1. **Regular Police Patrols:** Establishing a visible police presence during both day and night to deter drug abuse and littering. This will create a safer environment for families, children, and all park-goers.
2. **Community Engagement:** Encouraging police officers to engage with the community, fostering positive relationships and open communication regarding safety concerns.

Castle Park is a vital part of our community, providing a space for recreation, relaxation, and connection. By addressing the cleanliness and safety issues through this proposal, we can ensure that it remains a cherished destination for current and future residents.

We respectfully request your support in implementing these initiatives to revitalize Castle Park for the enjoyment and well-being of all.

Thank you for considering our proposal. We look forward to your prompt attention to this matter and hope to see positive changes in Castle Park soon.

Sincerely,

Nayari Veras
Community advocate and resident of district 4

Why is this important?

Why???? Here’s why!

Joining the movement for change within Castle Park offers numerous benefits for both the community and individuals:

Being part of the change fosters a sense of belonging and connection with fellow residents. Working together towards a common goal creates stronger bonds and enhances community spirit.

Participating in initiatives aimed at cleaning and revitalizing the park leads to a more pleasant and appealing environment for everyone. A clean park encourages outdoor activities, promotes health, and enhances the overall quality of life.

Advocating for increased police presence and safety measures contributes to a more secure environment. This ensures that families and individuals can enjoy the park without fear of drug abuse or other unsafe behaviors.

Taking action empowers individuals to voice their concerns and make a tangible difference. It instills a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing that their efforts contribute to the well-being of the community.

Engaging in clean-up efforts helps protect the natural beauty of Castle Park. It contributes to preserving local flora and fauna, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the park.
By joining forces to improve Castle Park, community members set a precedent for other local initiatives. This can inspire further positive changes in the neighborhood and beyond.

Health benefits: Participating in outdoor activities and clean-up events promotes physical health and mental well-being. Engaging with nature has been shown to reduce stress and enhance mood.

In summary, joining the movement for change in Castle Park not only enhances the park itself but also strengthens community ties, promotes safety, and encourages a healthier lifestyle. Together, residents can create a vibrant, safe, and welcoming space for all to enjoy.

Good afternoon Everyone. This is an important update letting everyone know that the petition will be on the agenda for the city council on May 13. I received an email this morning confirming if you’re able to still carve out some time to come to the city council meeting today there will still be a discussion in respect to needles stemming from substance use in their public parks. It’s an order of Mayor Joseph Petty, as well as in order from counselor Khyristian King requesting the city manager. The assistant commissioner Of Public Works & Parks to look into the national recreational and parks Association for residential purposes to consider devising a comprehensive response to the substance use crisis.
