Stop the Utility-Scale Solar Farm on McChesney Ave. Ext. in Brunswick

The proposed construction of a utility-scale solar farm at 511 McChesney Ave. Ext. in Brunswick, NY, threatens to disrupt the natural beauty, wildlife, and well-being of our community. CVE North America, Inc. is proposing a 16,000-panel utility-scale solar farm on 99 acres surrounded by an 8-foot metal fence at McChesney Ave. Ext. between Town Office Road and Moonlawn Road. It would produce 7 megawatts of energy. Industrial areas or brownfields are more suitable for such a large operation.

This parcel has wide visibility, is heavily travelled, and provides one of the most beautiful views of the Town, especially the view from Creek Road. No amount of screening can hide a field of 10-foot-high solar panels and an 8-foot-high metal fence at this proposed site when viewed from distant locations. Screening will not completely obscure the view of the fence and the panels from the adjacent roads or the upper levels of adjacent homes. As mentioned in the May 1, 2025 Planning Board meeting, the tree plantings will take 5-7 years to reach maturity at best.

Why is this important?

While solar farms may be appropriate for some areas in Brunswick, this is not one of them due to its large size and location on a highly visible scenic vista in the center of a residential farming community. The Town of Brunswick Planning Board is currently reviewing a waiver of subdivision, site plan, and special use permit for the project. Let's urge the Planning Board stop this project.

Thank you for signing! I wanted to share a few updates.

The Planning Board is meeting this Tuesday, June 24, at 7:00 pm at Brunswick Town Hall and this project is on the agenda. Although you will not be able to speak (and several other projects are on the agenda), I am hoping for a large turnout so the Planning Board members and the CVE representatives will understand that we are ready to fight this project.

They'll know why you're there because I'll be distributing buttons in the parking lot before the meeting. I believe that we can really make a difference by showing up.

There is a list of other activities you can do on our new website https://nosolarmcchesneyaveext.org/

I apologize if you are receiving unwanted emails from moveon.org. They told me you can unsubscribe and still receive updates such as this one about the project.

The members of the No Commercial Solar Farms Here campaign appreciate your support. I hope to see you on Tuesday!
