Support Rhinebeck Town Board’s Actions to Protect our Community

We, the undersigned, support the Rhinebeck Town Board’s legal action against illegal zoning practices in Hyde Park and Clinton to unfairly enable development of a massive proposed Six Senses luxury resort on sensitive land where Hyde Park, Clinton, and Rhinebeck meet. The proposed Six Senses resort targets protected Greenbelt and low-density residential and agricultural zones, threatening irreplaceable farmland, vital wetlands, clean water, historic sites, endangered species, and our region’s character . Notably, zoning boards in Hyde Park and Clinton had previously DENIED this project. This lawsuit protects the rule of law, our environment, and community character.

Upholding the Rule of Law: We support Rhinebeck’s action to ensure neighboring towns follow lawful zoning practices on Rhinebeck’s borders. The lawsuit against Hyde Park and Clinton officials exposes illegal backdoor maneuvers to pass a questionable new law and a private settlement to override lawful zoning denials, benefiting the developer, IHG. We must insist that neighboring towns uphold their zoning laws to prevent negative impacts to Rhinebeck residents such as increased traffic and environmental destruction

Elected to Lead: We agree that town officials have broad discretion to protect residents from unlawful large-scale development, and we stand by the Rhinebeck Town Board for taking a principled stand. We understand that attorney-client privilege requires certain matters be discussed in private.

Open Dialogue is a Rhinebeck Tradition: Rhinebeck’s commitment to open meetings ensures continuous public input on any matter. We acknowledge that NOBODY has been denied a voice and that ALL are permitted to speak at any public town board meeting.

Why is this important?

Rhinebeck's Town Board is under ATTACK by well-connected very vocal business interests aligned with the $20 billion IHG hotel corporation that's attempting to build a large Six Senses Hotel & Resort where it doesn't belong.

Please read and sign our petition to show support for the Rhinebeck Town Board's efforts protecting our community, environment and fair zoning.
