Tell ICE: Reverse policy on immigrant mothers!
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has ended its policy of releasing pregnant immigrant women from detention. This is an inhumane action that only supports President Trump’s hateful and anti-immigrant agenda.
Why is this important?
Last week, the Trump Administration announced that it was ending a policy that generally releases pregnant women from immigration detention centers.
Under President Obama, immigrant mothers-to-be were typically released except in rare circumstances. ICE’s new policy means that more pregnant women will be detained, and is part of an agenda to detain more immigrants than ever before.
The policy change is especially concerning because ICE has a record of not always properly giving immigrants proper access to health care. Many immigrant would-be mothers have lost pregnancies while in detention centers. ICE still hasn’t said what it plans to do with nursing mothers.
Immigrant women need to be treated with dignity and given a chance to access proper prenatal care. ICE needs to reverse its new policy and release pregnant women from immigration detention! Please tell ICE Director Homan to stop taking risks with the lives of immigrant women and their children.
