Tell Trump: Fund Our Forests and Protect Our Planet

Our national parks and forests are at risk because of the Trump administration’s latest move to cut federal programs that millions of people rely on. These natural treasures are not only the heart of our nation's heritage, but they also play a critical role in preserving biodiversity, combating climate change, and providing public access to nature.

The latest cuts from the Trump administration cuts to the budgets of the National Park Service (NPS) and U.S. Forest Service (USFS) have put our parks and public lands at great risk. Park rangers, who are on the front lines of conservation, are being stretched thin and recently faced job cuts that prevent them from properly managing these irreplaceable resources. As a result, our parks and forests are suffering from deferred maintenance, increased wildfire risks, and reduced access for the public.

These cuts have far-reaching consequences, not just for the parks and rangers, but for all of us. Together, we say: NO MORE CUTS. PROTECT OUR PARKS. FUND OUR FORESTS.

Why is this important?

Our parks are critical in the fight against the ongoing climate crisis. Without the necessary funding to maintain and expand public lands, we jeopardize our ability to fight the climate crisis through economic stewardship and to protect our natural resources for future generations.

National parks and forests are home to countless species of plants and animals, many of which are endangered. Insufficient funding leaves them vulnerable to invasive species, habitat destruction, and climate change impacts.

The park rangers that protect these parks are essential not only for maintaining park landscapes but also for ensuring public safety and education. Without proper staffing,  fewer rangers are available to educate visitors about conservation and safety, and there are fewer resources to protect our lands from damage and misuse.

These are funding cuts that will impact communities across the country. National parks and forests are an important part of the local economy, supporting tourism, jobs, and small businesses. Substantial cuts to these programs will harm communities that depend on parks for income and tourism. National parks are also one of the few spaces left that are usually free or inexpensive and open to the public.

We must reverse course: Our parks and forests, and all the rangers who keep them safe and taken care of, need us now more than ever. Sign the petition to demand that Congress push back against these cuts and ensure that park rangers have the resources they need to protect our natural heritage and fight climate change.
