Vote no on Amy Coney Barrett as Supreme Court Justice

Just last year, serving on the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Amy Coney Barrett wrote an opinion upholding the dismissal of Smith v. Illinois Department of Transportation, in which a fired Black state employee Terry Smith filed a workplace discrimination lawsuit saying that his white supervisor Lloyd Colbert, called him the n-word. Amy Coney Barrett asserted that Terry Smith didn’t make a strong enough case that harassment by Lloyd Colbert was occurring by calling him the N word. She said “...he must also demonstrate that Colbert’s use of this word altered the conditions of his employment and created a hostile or abusive working environment.”

Even Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, previous appointee of President Donald Trump, DISAGREED with her ruling on the matter and took the only stance that should be taken on this matter “No other word in the English language so powerfully or instantly calls to mind our country’s long and brutal struggle to overcome racism and discrimination against African-Americans. In short, the case law demonstrates that a single, sufficiently severe incident may create a hostile work environment.”

Amy Coney Barrett should be supporting safe work environments of POC in private business workplace as nobody should be called the N-word under any circumstance.

Why is this important?

This is so important to protect families in the workplace from discrimination and harassment. It is part of our constitutional right per Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The United States Constitution also prohibits discrimination by federal and state governments against their public employees. Discrimination in the private sector is not directly constrained by the Constitution, but by signing this petition we can change that, we can move forward not backwards on civil liberties. Please join me in telling the house of senate we do not want a Supreme Court Justice who rules in favor of using the N word! We want a Supreme Court appointee that supports workplaces that are free of discrimination and harassment. We want senators who support safe workplaces.
