We Must Avoid War with Iran

I urge you to use every ounce of your influence and constitutional authority to avoid war with Iran.

Why is this important?

Iranian protesters demanding their rights have been met with brutal violence by their government. Security forces have reportedly killed thousands of protesters, and a communications blackout makes it difficult to reach people inside the country. We condemn the ongoing violence and repression in Iran.

It is uncertain where these historic protests will lead, but one thing must be made clear: The Iranian people should determine their future, not Trump and war hawks in Washington.

There’s been no indication that Iranian protestors want a foreign intervention in their country. The troubling reality is that U.S. intervention in Iran is likely to feature violence that kills soldiers and civilians alike, further immiserates millions of people in Iran, and does nothing to help the brave protesters achieve their goals.

It’s time for us to do what we do best by turning up the pressure to stop a war and telling Congress that people in Iran deserve solidarity, not bombing.
