When the School gets it wrong-Amend the HIB Law in NJ
I am asking that you amend the HIB Law in NJ to include consequences for the schools who knowingly do not follow the HIB protocols in establishing if an act of bullying was truly committed.
These consequences are to include a public apology & to pay for said student to attend a neighboring school at their expense.
My son was a victim of a false accusation of bullying where he called a classmate a "liar" for spreading false information about him. This ruined his friendships, his reputation, and he was forced out of the school. The school knew there was NO distinguishing characteristic to hold any merit to their claims, as being told by Law Judge early in my fight. Yet the school forged in with their attorney & proceeded full throttle.
My family ended up selling our home just so our son could safely return to school as he was very unhappy homeschooling, and needed to be around his peers.
The Law Judge as well as the Commissioner of NJ sided with us, that calling someone a liar is not bullying them.

Why is this important?
No other family should have to endure what ours did.
Our son's name was dragged through the mud because a bunch of adults felt they had the power to do so.
No child should ever have to defend themselves in this manner.
In this case it was the adults who were the bullies & they hid behind their school credentials to do it.
Yes i agree that any acts of bullying should be investigated, but the schools in this case knew better, they just hadn't thought a parent would challenge them on it.
A school should be a safe place for all children to learn & grow.
