Winget Park Elementary

Dear CMS Board Members,

I am writing on behalf of the Winget Park PTO in response to an August communication alleging that student contact information has been used without proper authorization, violating CMS Board Policy S-REC. While we fully understand and respect the importance of student privacy, I must clarify that these accusations are baseless and misinformed.

1. No Access to ParentSquare or Student Records:
As of April 2024, the PTO did not have access to ParentSquare or any student records. At no point did any PTO member have the ability to view, retain, or distribute student contact information. We strictly adhere to all guidelines regarding the protection of personal data, and there has been no misuse of such information by the Winget Park PTO.

2. Actionable Steps:
In light of these false allegations, we respectfully request a thorough review of Principal Michaw’s conduct in this matter, including the circumstances leading to this misunderstanding. Additionally, we ask for a review of Mr. Stephen Esposito’s response to these allegations, as his involvement did not seek a solution. It is critical that all parties involved in the administration of student privacy policies uphold the highest standards of professionalism and accuracy, and this situation warrants close scrutiny.

3. Request for a Retraction and Apology:
We kindly ask for the immediate withdrawal of this accusation and a formal apology to the Winget Park PTO for any undue stress this situation has caused to our reputation. Furthermore, we trust that proper measures will be taken to ensure that any future communications are based on accurate information and conducted in a fair manner.

The Winget Park PTO remains committed to supporting the school and its students in full compliance with all regulations. We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your prompt response.

Sincerely,
Winget Park Elementary School
PTO Supporter

Why is this important?

Our campaign is not just about restoring the Winget Park Elementary PTO; it's about standing up for the families, teachers, and students who depend on our efforts. Here’s why you should join us:

1. Support for Teachers: The PTO has always been a vital source of support for teachers, providing back-to-school funding to help them set up classrooms. This year, due to false accusations, they were unable to receive this funding. When you join our campaign, you are standing up for the educators who need this crucial assistance to create an effective learning environment.

2. Helping Families in Need: Our PTO was scheduled to hold a used uniform sale for families in need, but due to the false accusations, this important initiative could not take place. By supporting us, you are advocating for Winget Park families who rely on these affordable resources to send their children to school prepared and confident.

3. Fundraising for Essential Needs: The PTO plays a significant role in fundraising for various school needs throughout the year. From school supplies to extracurricular activities, the funds we raise enhance the student experience. Without this support, the school community is left without resources that contribute to the well-being and success of the students.

4. Restoring Trust and Accountability: We have been wrongfully accused of accessing student data without any evidence, resulting in an unjust ban. By joining us, you are fighting to correct this injustice, ensuring that the PTO can continue to operate transparently and effectively for the betterment of the school.

This campaign isn’t just about us—it’s about the students, teachers, and families who need our support. Together, we can restore the PTO’s ability to serve and strengthen our school community. Let’s fight for fairness and get back to the important work of making a difference for Winget Park Elementary.
