You may have seen flyers, social media posts, and rallies in support of an Agunah in our community.
"But what can I do? I'm just a regular person." You may have thought.
Actually, you showing your support IS EXACTLY what is needed to make a change.
We are in the 9th year of Nechama Wasserman being an Agunah (chained to a dead marriage), raising her 3 children alone, without any support from her husband Dovid or any member of his large family, many of whom are financially well-off and well-known members of their local communities in Monsey, Lakewood, Brooklyn, Chicago and Israel.
The Wasserman/Bassman family and many community leaders hid vital information from Nechama, an orphan, before her marriage to Dovid, including his traumatic brain injury which had a serious impact on his mental health.
After 10 years of living in an impossible situation, Nechama was forced to protect her children and peacefully requested a divorce, asking for nothing but her freedom.
We have begged the family to assist, and they have instead enabled him by continuing to support him financially, allowing Dovid to continue refusing a Gett.
We turn to you for support.
We need your voice to put an end to this saga.
This is a rare case where there is nothing holding back the Gett besides Dovid saying he wants ‘his wife’ back, and the lack of any family members accepting the familial duty of working as a team to end this unnecessarily prolonged painful relationship.

A rare and historical Psak has been issued by the most prominent Dayanim worldwide, who hold the highest halachic authority in both NY and Eretz Yisrael. With this Psak, all that is needed for the Gett to finally take place is for Dovid and the Wasserman/Bassman family to recognize that we as a unified community will not participate in this any longer.
