A parent's plea to DC Public Schools: Students REQUIRE more than 2 weeks of in-person summer school

Tell DCPS to provide an effective summer in-person enrichment program for its students and to extend the current 2 week program that they are offering. 60% of all DCPS students have been virtually learning from home over the last 13 months, we know that the achievement gap between young White students and students of color in the District has widened during the pandemic while the number of students reaching early literacy benchmarks has declined since schools shut down in March.

Tell the summer enrichment DCPS administrators that our students need and deserve at least a 4-6 week effective summer school program.

Why is this important?

The education of black and brown children in the District has been negatively impacted by the schools closing and virtual learning. To make up for this I'm asking that DCPS provide an effective summer school program for its students.
