Anna’s Law
I am writing to you not just as a concerned citizen, but as a grieving family member. My three year old niece Anna, was tragically killed as a result of illegal street racing in Tucson. What should have been an ordinary day turned into a lifetime of loss because of reckless and preventable behavior. Street racing is not just dangerous, it is deadly. Despite existing laws, individuals continue to engage in high-speed racing on public roads with little regard for human life. The current penalties are not strong enough to deter this behavior, and families like mine are paying the ultimate price. We are asking you to take action by introducing and passing “Anna’s Law,” legislation that would impose significantly stricter penalties for street racing, especially in cases where it results in serious injury or death. This law should include automatic felony charges for street racing incidents that result in injury or death, mandatory prison sentences for those convicted. Immediate vehicle impoundment and potential permanent seizure. Increased fines and license revocation. The goal of this law is simple: accountability and prevention. Stronger consequences will send a clear message that street racing is not a harmless thrill, it is a violent and reckless act that destroys lives.
No family should have to endure this pain. Anna’s life mattered, and her story deserves to create change that protects others. We urge you to act now to prevent further tragedies and to ensure that those who choose to engage in street racing are held fully accountable.
Why is this important?
Street racing is a preventable danger that continues to take innocent lives. Three year old Anna lost her life because of someone’s reckless decision to race on public roads. The current penalties are not strong enough to stop this behavior. Without real consequences, it will continue, and more families will suffer the same loss. “Anna’s Law” is about protecting lives, creating accountability, and making sure no other family has to experience this kind of tragedy. It turns a heartbreaking loss into a chance to prevent future ones.
