Comet Lodge Cemetery - Sustainable History

November 2, 1987, All Souls Day, Day of the Dead, the City of Seattle bulled the gravestones that memorialize in stone Washington's history into piles of cenotaphs, stones that don't mark history. Upon discovering the stones of my ancestors, I selected the Restoration of Comet Lodge Cemetery as my Master's project at Seattle University. Since then my family has rescued three of five family grave markers. Those of my great great grandfather Samuel Bevan, the first Mayor of South Park along with his wife's cenotaphs, the large stone of great grandfather William Dickinson. For over twenty years I have petitioned the City to recognize this desecration. Two decades later the City has finally recognized the graveyard's existence but continues to deny any culpability in it's destruction.
Why is this important?
Seattle! A great place to live but don't be caught dead here! Seattle has a long history of destroying history and the ability of it's ancestors to visit their families' eternal resting graves. Numerous cemeteries have been built over. Seattle buries thousands of it's less fortunate in mass graves. If you cherish history, respect for Seattle sustainable reputation, this might be a good cause for you to consider. If you are sympathetic, and appalled that 10 families live in houses atop Babyland, the baby section of the Comet Lodge Cemetery, this cause might stir your interest, and listen to the Mayor's denials. You might want more. http://worldperc.com/comet/ perhaps a list of burials, maybe you are related. http://www.worldperc.com/comet/burials.html or just the facts. http://www.worldperc.com/comet/records.shtml If want want a story for Halloween http://johndickinson.info/
