COVID-19 Emergency Rent and Debt Forgiveness - Condonación de renta y deuda - 사태의 렌트와 빚은 면제되어야 합니다

We believe that an immediate moratorium on collecting rent and mortgage for the month of April and forgiveness of interest, late fees, or the owing of that month's rent in the future should be implemented. Options for deferring mortgages should be discussed. This moratorium, forgiveness, and deferment should continue as long as the critical and necessary social distancing continues, or longer as the economy recovers.

Why is this important?

As a group, the working class of California have been financially devastated by the critical and necessary measures put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19. Though the federal government may eventually provide relief, the immediate conservation of our limited financial resources is necessary for our own and our family's health and well-being. Rentors, Leasors, banks and other relevant institutions can, as a class seek their own relief; the state and federal government is much more responsive and historically more likely to act on their behalf. We must protect our limited cash flow immediately.

At the city level 150k signatures was impressive. At the State level we need a million. Spread the word. Get more signatures. We can use that as leverage to talk to the media, to show this petition as it's growing to politicians and let them know that their jobs are at stake.

The city of Los Angeles is unable to do this. I have changed the petition to aim it at the state. Please contact you state senators and assembly members http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/

I altered the English version of the petition to make the stance on mortgages more clear.

We have gotten part of what we want in the petition. A moratorium on fees, penalties, and other charges for late rent. Now we need to call, write, email our city councilmen and tell them that we support this, that this is what we want! They will hear us. Especially as the vote comes before the city council.

This policy sounds great, and is better than nothing. But forbearance sucks. All the interest you don't pay is added to the principal. You end up with another 5 years on the loan with a one year break. True relief is called deferment, where interest is paused, and payments are suspended.

Moratorium on collection, DEFERMENT of interest, help now.

I finally received an e-mail from David Ryu's office. It was a boiler plate email. It reiterated that there will be no evictions during the Emergency.

The government is talking about a bailout of $750 to $1000 dollars. That doesn't even cover my rent.

What happens in May when I owe 2 months rent?

Or June when I owe 3?

I won't be evicted now because they don't want me on the streets but will they evict me then?

The rent needs to be forgiven while I CANT WORK.

What happens when the businesses who can't reopen fail and millions are looking for work?

Rent and Mortgage moratorium (no rent or mortgage collection), forgiveness (you will never owe it), deferment (interest or payments are frozen and moved forward) are absolutely necessary to our current health and well being, and our economic future.

I got about 10 seconds at the 704pm airing on KCRW. Yesterday I could have saved someone's life and not gotten a mention. We are doing great work here. I look forward to talking more with moveon tomorrow.

Dear Everyone,

Thank you for making this petition meaningful by lending your voice and signature to it.

We have done quite a bit, but it is not time to slow down. It is not over. We are starting to become a loud voice among many loud voices. Every one who signs this makes us a little louder, a little further up front, a little more pressing to those who manage this city.

Good morning everyone! If you haven't already please bother your friends, family, co-workers, facebook groups, instagram stories, favorite celebrity feeds on twitter, advertisements on facebook and instagram, reddit should hear about this, make more noise. There are a few other campaigns out there, but they don't show that number. The number of people signing here is really special, and the more we get the more powerful our voice is. There are many organizations talking about a rent strike, and that may be where this leads, but lets get a whole lot of people together to tell those in charge that we need this. April is coming fast. Don't be shy!

Hi everyone, below is a sample message to send to your local representatives, news stations, magazines, newspapers, radio stations, kPCC, KCRW, etc. You can just copy and paste. Or make it your own! But get the word out. Make some noise!

24 hours ago residents of LA began organizing to demand a pause in collection of rent and loan payments due to hardships from closures and freezes relating to COVID19 social distancing policies. A petition started yesterday has already garnered nearly 90000 signatures and continues to grow at a faster pace by the minute. We would love if you would consider featuring the story of this petition as things progress. Link: https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/covid-19-emergency-rent-and-debt

We raced past 50k and we just past 75k, no reason we can't reach 100k tonight. If anyone has any connections with the media or the city government please put them in touch. Samsonblp@gmail.com. I'm open to advice on how to guide this petition into action and law. It was a beautiful day in LA. We may not be able to gather but if you can go outside, the air is beautiful and people are being really good to each other.
