Dekalb: Stop Cooperating with ICE, Protect and Support Immigrants

Dekalb County high school students demand the end of any voluntary cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), unless absolutely necessary or specifically stated in the law and the intentional and public support of our immigrant communities.

We need Dekalb School District to:
- Publicly affirm that all students in Dekalb have and will continue to have access to free and quality public education REGARDLESS of immigration status and that district will not collect or disclose immigration status of children or parents unless specifically required by law.
- Have no voluntary participation with the enforcement of civil immigration law by the school, school police or any district staff members
- Develop and publicize protocol so that families and students are clearly and rapidly informed of any law enforcement present in campus or nearby
- Share multilingual messages explaining what the district will do and will not do in case of ICE enforcement in or near the school
- Provide a list of resources for parents and students that may be victims of immigration enforcement curated by the district and process to access them

We need Dekalb CEO and Commissioners to:
- Work with the Sheriff, Sheriff's Office and police to stop any voluntary cooperation with ICE and CBP
- Clearly state that tactical enforcement is not welcomed or needed in the county as part of the normal operations and that it endangers our communities and families.
- Ban law enforcement from wearing masks if they are enforcing any immigration warrants.
- To be courageous for the communities directly affected and lead with love and strength, not fear
- Generously invest in legal support, resources and programs for the communities most directly targeted by hateful rhetoric and violence: Immigrants.

Why is this important?

Students around Georgia have been missing or dropping out of school due to fear of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Our parents are scared and our families are in crisis. Immigrants make 20% of all people in Dekalb County. They are active members of the community contributing every day and deserve to be protected from the attacks.

We deserve to have a safe learning environment in school and feel supported by our elected leaders.

Dekalb County prides themselves on diversity and inclusion, this is the time to show immigrants are included in that diversity. We need to show up for each other and for our leaders to be courageous in the stand against ICE.
